Hello. First time poster here.

I read an article that suggested people with UC have lots of
bad bacteria in the colon and not enough good.
Has anyone else heard of this? In 17 years I never
had a Doc tell me this. I just blew it off but it kept popping
up in my  head for a week so  am going to run with it.
I decided to put loads of good bacteria in my body and see
what happens. I have nothing to lose but I hope the
mucus gas goes away.
This is what I have been doing
for the last four days and will continue for the minimum
 of 3 months.

#1 Raw milk. Pasteurizing kills all the friendly bacteria.
Raw milk is easy to get it is called milk share.
I met some lactose intolerant people at the farm that
said they can drink raw milk. You will have to try for your self.
#2 Kefir made from the raw milk.
 #3 probiotics x3 a day.
#4 Cheese made from raw milk from grass feed not grain feed cows.
#5 NATTO    Rotten beans bought at Asian grocery store. Do not heat it will kill the friendly bacteria. Tatste very bad to me. I eat this three times a day.  Mix in a borrito

or lots of soy sauce and mustard.
#6 Coconut oil. Supposedly slowly kills bad bacteria.

I am also going to try raw goat milk.

PS I will keep you folks posted if you want and thanks for this sight.

Diagnosed Colitis 1990.
Current Meds Asacol x4
twice a day.
Pred for flares.
I still have my colon THANK YOU GOD!!!

Some people take probiotics from the health food store. (good bacteria in pill form)

Another approach is to experiment with your diet, and try to starve the bad bacteria. That's
the theory behind eliminating most or all of the carbohydrates / sugars from your diet.
Proctitis - diagnosed April 2007 (symptoms starting in October 2006)

Flares treated with Rowasa enemas

Mild food diet (chicken, rice, collard greens, no sugar, no corn, no beef/pork, etc)

You probably mean you want to kill the fungi/yeast that were allowed to grow with the overgrowth of the bad bacteria. The good bacteria was killed off, not replenished, and the bad took over, allowing yeast to grow. That's what happens if, for instance, you take a dose of antibiotics, or take birth control pills. Eliminating sugar/carbs will kill fungus. Coconut oil that you mention, is a good natural antifungal. Cheese is a mold, so be careful what kind of cheese you eat if you're trying to kill fungus. Can't say I'd want to eat the NATTO. You're a brave soul :) I hear raw milk is good, although I've never tried it. I got better following an antifungal program with natural antifungals, no weird foods. Hats off to you....Good luck!

blessteve...welcome to the forum. Not all believe in the UCers have bad bacteria or fungal theory.

With all the stuff you're consuming...don't you have a lot of gas???

I don't see you on any rectal meds.

Is your UC throughout your colon or limited?

I can see being on pred as a precurser for changing the flora of the colon.

quincy,
Yes I have some gas.
Pancolitis.
No rectal meds currently.
Colon has never been in complete remission since
diagnosed. I am sure not everyone believes the bacteria
theory but I am still taking asacol and have nothing
to lose and everything to gain.
I will continue filling my body with friendly
bacteria for three months. Then I will decide what
side of the bacteria(yeast) fence I am on.

You should be on rectal meds...you say not at this time..why not?

Remember, the rectum will always be inflamed if you're flaring.

I would suggest you try the5ASA retention enemas Rowasa (I'm assuming you're in the US..but if not, Salofalk).

Probitics are good for everyone to take....but I'm wondering why you're consuming so much?

What kind of foods are you eating daily?
