Hello,

I am currently taking 2400 mg/2 times a day Asacol and my doc gave me the option of switching to Lialda since it would be fewer pills etc...  I am currently symptom free and don't want to rock the boat, but wondered if anyone else had switched in this situation?

Thanks so much!

Personally I would not switch if I was feeling good! That's just my two cents:)

Hi, I've posted on this subject many times b/c I had such great success in switching from Asacol to Lialda.  At one point I was suppose to be taking 3 pills 4 X a day and I was lowered to 3 pills 3 X a day.  While I was on Asacol I rarely took my prescribed dosage b/c I was always forgetting, busy, etc.  For about a year I had blood in my stool almost everytime I went to the bathroom.  After a few weeks of being on Lialda I had no more blood.  I have been on Lialda since August and I haven't had any problems w/ blood since then.

Thanks for the replies.....I do not have a problem with compliance, so I'm at least okay there. But, sometimes I think fewer pills would be easier. But, I'm still of the opinion also to not change just yet, but Imay reconsider if others who are already in remission had switched. My doc said either way would be fine. I think a lot of times they switch people is because of forgetting to take the asacol and such.

Thanks again.

Symtom free???

If it ain't broke don't fix it. You may be the one Lialda does not work for and
send yourself into a 5 year massive flare.

Why risk it?
Diagnosed panColitis 1990.

twice a day.

I'm a Lialda user and it is nice only taking two pills a day. But, than again its always a risk but it is FDA approved and is essentially the same thing as Asacol. As long as you dont have an allergic reaction you should take well to it. Than again like others said here, stick with what works. But than again sucking down 12 pills a day can get old. Good luck with your decisions.
