I appear to be steroid dependent and have been researching ways to get off the Prednisone successfully. I found some information indicating that Methotrexate (Rheumatrox) in injectable formulation can be helpful in patients who cannot tolerate or be helped by Imuran or other Thiopurines and that it can also be helpful when taken in conjunction with Remicade. While I have experienced improvement with the Remicade, I am still not quite into remission and I am still unable to get off the Prednisone. My GI tried to get me off the Pred with Entocourt, but that wasn't helpful.

I haven't come across any posts regarding Methotrexate and UC and was wondering if anyone here has any experience or has heard anything about it.

Thanks

Meesh

I've been on the pill form of methotrexate for....maybe 8 months or so with my remicade. I was put on it to get me off of Azathioprine becuase my GI was concerned about the risk of lymphoma with the remicade/azathioprine combination.
I haven't noticed any difference after switching, I think the methotrexate is to try to prevent antibodies to the remicade.
I see you've had 4 infusions, it may take a little longer for the remicade to fully work. Good luck!!!

I also took metho with Remicade in an effort to prevent antibodies from forming. I took the oral/pill form and I had a difficult time with side effects. It really knocked me out. I took a weekly dose Friday pm and spent the weekend on the couch, usually able to drag myself to class Mon and Tues and feeling good again Wed only to start it all over again on Friday. I also lost a lot of hair on this drug. They were able to lower my dose some which helped a bit. Many others have no side effects, and you can see from my signature that nothing ended up working for me so take this with a grain of salt. There are not many people on metho, I had trouble finding them when I started as well.

Good luck!
Liz
