how to help my sister after her ilostomy

eyes  hey everyone i am a new member and have joined bcoz of my sister who was diagnosed with uc in 2001, she is now due to have her surgery on the 24th jan 2008, and i really want to be there for her 100%, could someone please tell me how they felt and how i could help my sister. i don't want to be there jsut for the physical side eg cleaning, cooking, i want to be there for the emotional side as well and i want to make a difference when shes feeling down, she has three children whom are 12,11 and 4. please help

elisha, have you visited the ostomy board here on healingwell? The members there may be a great help to you, because they've all had ostomies.

Moderate to severe left-sided UC (21 cm) diagnosed 2001.
Intolerant to Asacol and rectal mesalamine preparations.
On Prednisone then Entocort 2001-2006 with only short periods off. 
Current meds are Colazal, Azathioprine Remicade, Nature's Way Primadophilus Reuteri.
In remission since April, 2006. Remicade has been my wonder drug.
