hey all,
first, i just want to say that i missed you all--it has been awhile since i posted. things have been crazy with moving, starting a new job, etc. i hope all is well in UC land (is that possible??)

anyway, i have been having major problems recently. things were pretty okay, the normal on and off days, but for the past three days i have woken up feeling "iffy" and as the day progesses i get SO bloated (bowling ball style) and end up in so much pain. it almost feels like i have an obstruction of some kind. but then, i few hours later, i will come home and have massive D.

could it be that i need to up the dosage of my probiotics? my old GI said that my bloating was probably resulted from bacteria buildup in the small intestine. would that contribute to D?

any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hi Katie - bloating is not one of my symptoms, so I have no advice there, but I did want to say welcome back. as for the bloating, have you changed your diet recently? if so, maybe you are ingesting more foods that create gas?

I would look at diet. You may be eating something you have a reaction to. Or if you have an overgrowth of bad gut bugs - candida being the most common - any sugars and starches can bloat you up.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999

I've been trying a digestive enzyme to help with gas/bloating and the general yuck feeling I get my my GERD as well as the UC. I wonder if it would help you?

It's called Digestive Gold by Enzymedica - the makers of the Pro-Bio that many of us have started. You might even try emailing the company and asking for a sample if you want to try it. They've been great to work with :)

Feel better soon! (Glad to see you around!)
