Has anyone tried using a natural detox product? I am thinking about trying one but am a little nervous about side effects for UCers. Anyone with any experience doing a detox/cleanse??

I'll be honest...those things scare me to death. We typically warn against those.

What product do you have your eye on SDM? A food diet "detox" would be something to consider.

Sandra, I noticed you're off medications now. Are you in remission? If so, I wouldn't mess with it. For me, it just wouldn't be worth the possibility of upsetting my delicate balance.

I would first need proof I was toxic. If no proof of being toxic then why detox.

If you are of meds I would agree with Judilyn, DON'T rock the boat, AKA colon
Diagnosed panColitis 1990.
Current Meds Asacol x4 twice a day.
Pred for flares. I still have my colon THANK YOU GOD!!!
veggie juice-wheat grass juice--fish oil
Started 1/01/08
raw milk-kefir made with raw milk--natto--caprylic acid-oregano oil
probiotic
1/10/08 Started healthy diet again.

Actually, I'm not off meds (I have corrected my signature). I take Asacol 1600 mg per day. I wouldn't say I'm in complete remission but also not what I would call a flare...no bleeding, 2-4 BM per day, no D but definitely not formed BM. I saw my doctor for my annual checkup this week and he did a surprise and impromptu partial sigmoidoscopy (yikes!) in his office. Said there is currently inflammation but appears to be limited to the rectum at the moment. He did not suggest changing my meds from 1600mg of Asacol per day.

The product I was considering is called Aloe Ease Colon & Body Cleanse. My mother tried it and felt really good after, but she does not have UC. Completely different bag of tricks messing with the colon for us!

I personally think we all have a build of toxins in our systems in varying degrees, simply from pesticides and other things consumed with our food, meds we take, air pollution, fast food, etc., etc. But I definitely don't want to run the risk of another flare like I had last fall....no way.

thanks for everyone's input. :)
