I was reading about Kefir and came across this. Lactobacillus plantarum is a friendly bacteria found
in veggie culture.  First I heard of veggie culture but it sounds like friendly bacteria like in Kefir
and probiotics. I copy and pasted this line.

"Research suggests that Lactobacillus plantarum has an ability to reverse gut disbyosis, like IBS, Crohn's Disease and Colitis".

That is one big claim so my first thought is B.S..

Has anyone had experience or tried this for probioti?. It is cheap as dirt so I probably will give it a shot.

Diagnosed panColitis 1990.
Current Meds Asacol x4 twice a day.
Pred for flares. I still have my colon THANK YOU GOD!!!

I've read the same and I would think it's a good one to take. I believe VSL-3 and Primal Defense contains it, as well as Udo's Choice (which I just checked out recently).

I would take it in capsule form with others.

I recommend typing in Google Scholar "Lactobacillus plantarum" and also ulcerative colitis, IBD, etc. to see if there is any legitimacy (http://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&lr=&q=Lactobacillus+plantarum+ulcerative+colitis).  Using the word "reverse", I agree, maybe a bit strong when it comes to UC, but dysbiosis is an unbalance of microbial colonies (which should be reversable)--only it is not conclusive it is the only cause or initiation of UC and the rest.  However, there does seem to be a link and people tend to get better from various probiotics, suggesting UC and the rest have a bacterial unbalance.  L. plantarum is contained in some of my supplements and sounds like it is worth taking, at a glance.

it's not talking about reversing UC or CD...just dysbiosis...which is important in ANY gut.

Sara,
It varies from batch to batch but generaly it is OK sometimes good.
You can also put in fruit or flavorings and then it is good to great but I do not care about taste.
Also you can buy it already made from health food stores and they tast like a treat but
do not have has many Good bacteria has my home made from raw milk does.
Different brands also taste slightly diff.
I have only been making it for 2 weeks so I do not have much experience.
