Hey All! I'm trying to do better w/ my water consumption (I tend to get dehydrated rather quickly). How much exactly is one supposed to drink a day? I know this is a bit off topic but I appreciate the help!

I think I've read somewhere that a normal woman should drink 8 - 8oz glasses of water a day. I tend to drink a bit more then that because of my 6mp. But some days, I'm better on doing this then others. But, good for you for trying to *finally* increase your water! :) Oh and btw, a lot of water consumption is also good for the skin and complexion.

Hi Sherry, why did you say you drink more because of the 6-mp? Does it make you more dehydrated? Or are you supposed to drink more? Bratcat drinks almost 3 liters a day so I know she is drinking enough. But since she is on 6-mp, I was wondering why you mentioned that. Just checking.

--Mom of bratcat (16 years old)--
bratcat was diagnosed with pancolitis October 2006
Current meds:
Asacol - 3 pills/3Xday, 5 mg prednisone, 2 tabs 6-mp

11/14/06 - started prednisone; 1/28/07 - finished prednisone!
3/3/07 - began to taper off hydrocortisone sloowwly! Summer 2007 - slowly began tapering Rowasa. 9/07 -- flaring? Nightly Rowasa. 9/21/07 -- added hydrocortisone enemas. 9/30/07--added prednisone. 10/31--started 6-mp, stopped the enemas. Started lowering prednisone.

I dunno lol that's what it says on my prescription bottle (to drink plenty of water) :) So I'm assuming it's supposed to help keep the liver in good shape?

You should be drinking enough water so that your urine is a very light yellow color. Now, with vitamins, it could be interesting to determine that at time - the flourescent yellow color might throw a person off!

I've heard so many different things on actually amounts that I'm not sure how much that would be. But I do know that I'm usually not drinking enough :( Especially on weekends, I tend to forget. It's easier at work 'cause I keep a bottle of water or a glass of tea on my desk all day.

Best of luck!

The more the better..... you could use an empty, cleaned out 4l milk jug to get an idea of how much water your getting in daily, or if you drink bottled water only, count how many a day and the bottle size to figure out how much a day you're drinking.

:)

I drink about 2 and half litres a day of actual water and feel that i am adequately hydrated. I also sweat a lot at the gym and still think that this is enough...for me. :) I also drink several cups of coffee, and yes i know that it dehydrates you, but not enough that it nullifys the liquid content of the coffee. :)

I drink about the same as Bob...2  1/2 litres - 3  a day.

One who has diarrhea and not taking in food or adequate supplementation can run the risk of electrolyte imbalance by drinking too much water.

As well, to much water can exacerbate diarrhea...something that can be helped by lowering intake and increasing fibre supplements.

Balance ....one can defintely take in too much water.  Yes, it's good for the skin and body.

Too much water is hard on the kidneys.  Especially if forcing large quantities in a short period of time...consistently....

People who drink water constantly and don't have diarrhea can actually dilute electrolytes to a dangerous level.

I did find when I was working full-time that I got a weird headache around 2:00. 2 glasses  of water did help it ease...interesting. ..although I did need an Anacin chaser. ;-)

This is something I need to get better at. I aim for 2 litres per day but sometimes struggle to get that much into me. One thing to remember also anything you drink that contains caffeine actually counts against the amount of water you are taking in since caffeine is a diuretic so if you drink coffee/tea/soda that is caffeinated, you should up your water intake to counter that.

Tab,   If you are in a flare drink way more then normal. I worry about kidney shut down when in a bad flare.
When in a bad flare it sometimes seems hard to drink enough to get a good pee on.
So I would say drink enough to get a good clear pee going as mentioned above.

Diagnosed panColitis 1990.
Current Meds Asacol x4 twice a day.
