It could be IBS (have things been a bit stressful for you lately??) with possible fissure.
It could be something you've eaten consistently for the past week or so? Although it couldn't cause the bleeding.
It could be you're starting to flare....a good warning sign to start "something"..I'd suggest a rectal med (and since your body didn't agree with 5ASA, to try a steroid enema).
Discuss it with your naturopath and see what he/she suggests. Probiotics might help set some things straight....
You may eventually have to find meds that can help your UC....maybe Entocort pills (which release before the cecum)..will help that as well.
I hope this is fleeting...but if you're having any rectal discomfort, frequency or urgency...I'd lean more towards a flare.
Don't wait toooo long. You could see if your doc will do a stool sample to make sure it's nothing else.

My doc's logic.. "TREAT (FROM)BOTH ENDS" worth it !!!
