A little history on my situation... I was diagnosed with UC back in Summer of 2005 and after 40mg of Pred and Salofalk I was quickly brought into remission and stayed there for 2 years. Starting this summer I had what I'm assuming is a flare, I have severe urgency multiple times throughout the day, however most of time when i get to the washroom it's just mucus. I am passing a little blood in the morning but mostly throughout the day it's just mucus. Anyway given my condition I went off work on disability at the end of September and have been home ever since. I have been up and down from 40mg of pred, I have tried cortifoam, and salofalk enemas and nothing seems to be working.

My doc has now recommended imuran (100mg) which i started today. What I'm wondering is I have heard that imuran is a long term drug and within the next couple years me and my wife are going to start trying to have another baby. Does anyone now if there is any concern with trying to concieve while on this drug? I have done some reading but most of the research pertains to women. What if any are the risks of trying to get pregnant while I'm on imuran?

Please someone give me some encouraging words I am desperate to get my life back. I want to go back to work and start to live somewhat of a normal life again... Am I ever going to get back to remission or is this the new normal for me??
Currently in a flare since summer 07.
Current Meds: 35mg Pred, 2000mg salofalk, calcium supplements
Just about to start 100mg Imuran.

This topic has come up a couple of times recently (try a search.) You hear both sides as far as if it is good or bad. I think from a guys perspective for the most part you will hear "Go for it." That is what my GI told me. This drug can certainly bring your life back. I've had mixed results so far, but can't seem to get off the prednisone.
