Has anyone found a brand of coffee that is tolerable to Colitis patients. I have found that since eleiminating coffee completely from my routine, my systems have aleviated considerably. On the downside I find that I do miss the stimulent that coffee gives me. Anyone found any alternative other than "tea"

When I was flaring I couldn't tolerate any but after I was in remission it was fine. I know that folgers makes a type of coffee that's easy on the stomach
Here's the link to their site. I hope you can get your caff! :)

I cut out the most of the caffeine and switched to decaffienated coffee that is produced using the Swiss Water method to decaffeinate it. It can be hard to find Swiss Water method decaf, but they carry it at Whole Foods and Trader Joes. My naturopathic Dr. recommended that type of decaf since the other type of decaf is done using formaldihyde (who knew?). I switched to decaf because too much caffeine give me diarrhea. On another note, too much tea makes me constipated! Go figure.

I think it's the acidity in the coffee that gives me increased bm's, i've tried the decaf too (not the swiss method)...........I miss iced coffee

I had two last week and I felt the pain! back to no coffee again

Sometimes I drink Teecino.  It's caffiene free, but is supposed to provide a natural energy.  It's not exactly the same taste wise, but it's close.  It's also high in potassium.  It's gluten free, but it does contain almonds, so I don't know if that would work for everyone.  Personally, nuts don't really aggravate my condition.  The ingredients are: roasted carob, barley, chicory root, dates, orange peel, almonds and fig.  If these ingredients don't bother you, it might be an option.  I get mine at the local health food store.

Try latte's and see if they bother you. When I am flaring I can't have drip but I can have plain latte's but it gets kindof spendy...I am considering investing in a home espresso machine. Starbucks carry s a 'swiss process decaf(Decaffeinated Komodo Dragon Blend) - they are more watery but I think it is worth it to avoid the chemicals(methylene chloride is also used (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylene_chloride)).....

Even the smell of coffee makes me run the bathroom, I don't know why, maybe it's mental.

pavlov's dogs....the brain/body connection is very smart....a good survival process, but in autoimmune responses, it learns too quickly and makes a big deal out of stuff sometimes.

The smell of some fragrance makes me quite agitated....don't some women know they stink???? I have to control my thoughts/emotions or my body would start reacting from the anxiety of the feeling of being poisoned (how I used to feel oh so long ago).

I used to be a 6 or 7 cup man.  Now I can't have any whatsoever.  I have embraced teas and love them (decaf), but it took some time.  If you want a little jolt - try ginseng (although I have heard that can aggravate the colon as well).  Use the pure Korean granules - not the tea bag stuff.

good luck and love to all here

That is an interesting theroy, sometimes I think my frequent bathroom trips are mental, especially when little or nothing happens.

has anyone ever seen a shrink about their UC?

I wouldn't think your urgency is mental......coffee is a colon stimulant, and if you are flaring, the rectal inflammation will react to that stimulation.

I've seen a psychologist for my "issues".... a small portion was the frustration of having UC while dealing with other stuff.  Didn't change the UC, but it did change my thinking patterns.
