No imuran hasn't done anything for me. In fact at the moment I am off of it. My GI thinks it is what has been making me extrememly nauseas. I am waiting on some test results then we may try it one more time. I had just reached the theraputic dose when he told me to stop taking it. I still have hope that imuran will work and it's an infection making me nauseas. Weird that i'm hoping for an infection but I am still a little afraid of remicade. I am steroid dependent and have been on pred for over a year so his main concern is gettin me off of pred now. If my symptoms get worse while tapering he wants to forget imuran (becuase of the time factor) and go straight to remicade.

You've been on imuran for 2 weeks? i was told at the beginning that it usually takes three months from the point you reach a theraputic dose. So that means that I have just reached that dose (after 4 months of slow increases) I still wouldn't see results for a few more weeks. I've been stuck in this flare for over a year. What's a few more weeks right? I am trying to get more comfortable with remicade. Just in case.

My Dr said it could take 6 months to work, I wonder why your Dr already is thinking it isnt working for you? I am hoping it works for me and is sooner than 6 months!

Kelly - where do you live? just curious because we are in similar situations, and I thought it would be nice to chat with someone my age, on the same drugs as me, going through all of it.

sorry to jump in by when I talked to my GI the other day he said that because you are slowly tapered up to a higher dosage that is why it takes so long to work, that it actually works quicker than that.

I have no idea what is working for me, been on and off so much stuff. I really hope it's the imuran.

UCinNC I live near chicago. But I also make apperances in florida.

My doc didn't say it wasn't working it's just that my nausea is so bad that I take the max dose of zofran and it's still not helping. He wanted me on remicade to begin with but insurance wouldn't go for it until we tried imuran. He still wants to give it a chance though. I've had like 4 prometheus tests to figure out the right dose. We will see. I hve a call in at the moment.

yeah, same here. my doc isn't giving up on imuran yet either. far from it. but I am feeling skeptical about it and trying to allow myself to at least think about remicade. it may be that imuran pulls through for me. I am just frustrated, so it is hard to imagine it working out well....

Thats really weird that a gastro would say Imuran works so slowly because of the tapering.

I started at Imuran on 75 mg (standard dose for weight I guess), and from what I can recall, It was about 2 months when I fell into remission.  It wasnt a coincidence either, since I was flaring for  years at that point.  I had been sick since getting pregnant in 2000.

I did promethius test about 4  mths into Imuran, and was bumped up to 100 mg.  Then a year later, bumped again to 150 mg. I always find it funny when I up my dose, since I havent had a bad day in years...yet my meds increase.  I know its based on my blood tests...but I just associate taking more pills with being sicker.

Currently in remission since September 2004!!!  I am on Imuran 150 mg and am LOVING life!

i've been on it for 2.5 months and for the first two weeks it was two tabs a day then up to 4 tabs a day. I think GI meant that previously people would start off at a low dosage and slowly go up, that's why it would take a long time to work. who knows, that is the only time I heard of that....

I had some serious nausea when first on the Imuran. It went away after a month or so. Hang in there! Give it some time. It will probably pass.

Well I'm back on Imuran as of today and get to have another fun flex sig. I'm asking for sedation this time. At least the prep isn't as bad as a full scope. Woo Hoo!
