UC certainly can spread. It almost always starts in the proctosigmoid area, but in some people can extend higher in the colon. However, don't try to diagnose yourself based on pain
location. Pain in your abdomen can radiate and actually be felt in an area away from where the problem is. For instance, some people feel the pain from appendicitis in the area of their navel. I also have left-sided UC, and I typically had pain in my lower right abdomen during a flare.
I know you don't want a higher dose of Pred, but it really is time to call your doctor. You also might consider taking a good probiotic daily to help keep the bacteria in your colon balanced.
Hope you feel much better soon.
