You don't have to respond if you're not comfortable with it....

Has uc or the medications your take for it cause any changes in your sex drive?  If so, is there anything you take to counteract that or do you just live with it?  Both male and female responses would be great!  :)

When you are having bloody diarrhea and pain and having to use an enema every night... Who in the heck wants to have sex??? Plus.. the side effects of the all that medication. But, you are right- during the times that the flare lets up sex drive does increase.

hey icepixycicle,

good question...sensitive but good, I applaud you!

for me as a male...no pill worked...not viagra, cialis...nothing!

As soon as I changed my diet, my twinkie started working again and now, nearly every morning he stands to attention.

ps.
Now what do I do with all those extra pills?

yeah

What did you do to change your diet NBT?

btw I had to laugh at "twinkie" because I'd never heard it called that lol

oh and I'm not talking about when you're actually currently in the middle of a severe flare, because that's pretty understandable, if you're that sick sex just drops off the list of your body's needs so it can focus on trying to get well.

Reason I'm asking is we've tried a supplement called "testojack" (for men only) and all it seems to do is cause him migraines, which is counterproductive

Male here - I was on prednisone for 18 months, most of that at over 20mg. Max of 70mg.

Before I got sick, I was always up for it, day or night.

Once I was on the prednisone, I 'd alternate between a complete nympho or was completely disinterested.

Since stopping prednisone 6 weeks ago I have had absolutely no interest at all.

I've tried those natural things but they didn't do squat. I found that zinc supplements helped a bit though.

I agree that when someone is flaring - who the heck want's to have sex, especially if you're in pain! I'm not sure for men, but for women it can be darn right painful because everything in there is so closely connected. But once in remission, yes, the drive does increase. Of course for me, I'm not exactly like when I was 20 because it stinks getting older! :)

My drive is the same now (at 35) as it was at 18. I am good to go day or night, flare or not, in fact even when i couldn't get out of bed on my own after my surgery last year I was still wanting it. If my wife was willing, (we've been together 17 years, shes used to my "energetic" nature) 3 times a day, every day would suit me just fine. ;)

Right now the only thing making my drive extremely low is my VERY low self esteem from gaining so much weight on the prednisone. I dont feel sexy... so I dont want sex... make sense? My hubby says he still wants me.... but i hate how I look right now...so its stressful.

These responses are interesting, looks like a lot of guys (though not all) still keep their sex drives but the women lose theirs and it doesn't seem to make any difference which kinds of meds anyone is taking...not exactly what I wanted to hear lol but what're you gonna do

lol...all of these responses have me dying of laughter...haha!!!

icepixycicle...I was nearly always too tired for bednastics, sometimes I wasn't drinking enough water and was slightly dehydrated, which caused my blood pressure to be very low at times. At other times, it was just plain old UC causing extreme fatigue...I was a mess...barely even able to get out of bed.

For me, I discovered that certain foods made my symptoms worse...so now I avoid them like the plague and I have more energy now...that's it. Of course I still have UC, but at least it's symptoms are way less severe now and I can handle it...I just don't like not being able to eat my favourite foods...at least for now anyway.

My situation was somewhat differant than any I have read so far. My Prednisone seemed to have a viagara like effect on me for some reason. Unfortunately all the other meds mixed in would cause me to fall asleep quickly. God has a sense of humor I guess :-) . Just a side note from a loving husband, we still love you when you think you are fat the same way you love us when we lose 50 pounds and look like a stick and spend most of the day on the toilet. How sexy can that be?
UC since 01
Asacol
Prednisone
Mesalamine enema
Tried Remicade
Tried 6mp

I have crohns and typically just don't have the desire to initiate but have fun when I do participate if that makes sense. However, like the above poster, Entocort made me ready to go and looking 24/7. My lucky husband. Now my drive is definatly way lower, I can take it or leave it. But with a little work on his part I usually decide to take it.

I think I get that same effect from breathing.

For me the thought of having a possible rectal preforation into my vagina scares the heck out of me and ruins any mood I could try to force upon myself. Add that to flaring up, a burning butt, taking care of 2 young boys, and everything else, and you have one sad husband in his 20's...poor twinkie, lol.

Do rectal perforations into the vagina happen with UC? This is the first I've heard of it...I know with crohns it's common to get rectal/vaginal fistulas.

HA HA, LOL Bob....from breathing...my goodness we sure find out alot about people don't we.
