  Hello
I was diagnosed in 1996 at the age of 17. (i am 30 now). I have had many many (prob 15) colonoscopys in this time to keep up with how my colon looks.
I have been on a number of thing...prednisone worked well the first time but not so much this lat time. And the last time i was on it (2 years ago in aug) i broke my leg because it makes your bones brittle (it was a tiny fall and a major break) and i had a miscarriage (blighted ovum) I was not trying to get pregnant at the time but i did somewhow.
Anyway so fast forward to today. I had a baby girl 5 months ago. When i found out i was pregnant with this baby my colitis started to flare up again. I was fine before. Thats how i knew it was a girl too because when i was pregnant wih both boys i was great but this time not so great. So now i am still in a flare up but started Lialda about a month ago. Its doing maybe tiny bit better but i do hvae some blood present (not sure from colon or hemmroid)  I am just taking once a day. I also take folic acid because i read somewhere it is good for women who have this to take and who are on BC.
I also had mirena (birth controll) put in about 3 months ago and i think that has something to do with me not geting better. Anyone else on MIRENA?
Do you have any sugestions on what else i can take to help. I am RUNNING to the potty still too many times a day.
thanks

1 tablet of LIALDA a day
1 tablet of Folic acid

Welcome to the forum, ucat. Some additional information would help. Where in the colon is your UC located? What drugs have been tried? Are you using any rectal medications?

The information on birth control pills and UC is unclear. There have been a couple of small studies that suggested women on the pill have a higher rate of UC, but then the larger follow-up studies haven't shown a clear relationship. Perhaps someone else here is taking Mirena and can help out with that.

I hear you on the pred. I broke both of the bones in my lower left leg and I don't know to this day how I did it.

I believe i have colitis on the both sides of my colon. Kind of weird because it skips like the top.  I have taken ASACOL, Prednisone, enemas (which i didnt stick to very well), another one like prednisone but i forget the name (i was not on it long because it didnt seem like it was doing anything)  I have taken fish oil before but not have in a long time. (the good kind was so expensive) i have taken the aciphodophlis PEARL.  I have drank and taken ALOE VERA too. XANGO juice. Gosh i think that might be it.

Usually the Rowasa enemas are very helpful with the urgency. I'd suggest you talk to your doctor about getting back on them, and use them religiously once or twice a day for a while. Remember, too, that a lot of the drugs we take don't take effect immediately.

UCAT-

Definitely talk to your doctor- you need to get this under control. Also, one lialda may not be enough. The usual dose is 2x a day. Rowasa enemas have been a godsend for me. Unfortunately, I did not use these religiously when I just had proctitis and it spread to severe pancolitis.

Not trying to scare you, but you  definitely want to  nip this in the bud.

Severe Pancolitis- dx Jan. 07

My Special Cocktail:
Remicade- 4th infusion scheduled for Feb. 5th
Lialda- 2 tablets 2x a day
Rowasa enema- nightly
Prednisone- tapered to 15 mg

Probiotics
Inflamma-blox- 2 tablets
