OUCH! I was not ready for that pain! I had to start w/ 4 injections of the injection pen. I've never injected anything before but I just assumed it would be like a flu shot or getting blood taken- but NO, it was waaaaaay more painful. The initial poke is okay then you have to wait for the medicine to go in and you can FEEL it and it hurts like HELL. 10 seconds almost it takes to empty the pen. I yelled. Each time. My dog freaked out.

Luckily I won't have to do that for 2 weeks! and never four in a row again EVER.

Wish me luck :)

Eeek, that's not good. I am getting my first dose at the doctor's office next week. I hope it puts you into remission so it's worth it.

Hey anna - let us know how it goes. I am watching the Humira threads as I am interested in seeing if I can get into a trial of that drug in Australia. As far as I know, its not available here :-(

Also, are you a real DJ? If so, would be keen to chat with you either via email or IM etc. My MSN is in my profile. Am interested in how you manage your UC and play a gig. I am just coming out of a flare now. Had to give up my residency as I couldn't stay up beind the dex for more then an hour or two without urgently needing to run to the toilet :-(

Hey, it's morning and I feel fine. No immediate side effects, legs are fine. I am still on my Prednisone, at 30mg and about to keep tapering, that will be the real test.

I am a dj! But I am semi-retired. I am a teacher now and only play out occasionally. I wasn't really diagnosed with UC until I was out of the music business, but I definitely had some uncomfortable moment- gimme your email and I'll contact you, Severin.

Yay - another UC DJ. My DJ mates try to understand, but they always want to go out all night partying after a gig and I just crash because I'm so exhausted! Great to hear that you got to enjoy your career before UC came along. I suppose I'd be classed as retired as well - but due to the UC rather then by choice. Am trying to break back into it, though it seems like a very hard steep climb at the moment.

I am not sure how the moderators want us to pass email addresses as I don't think we're supposed to place them into posts, but I can't really think of any other way to do this, so email is djseverin at gmail.

Really hope the Humira works and please keep us posted!

I just found out my insurance didn't approve the Humira since it's not approved for UC. Hopefully with my recent diagnosis of Psoriatic Arthritis I can get it for that. For the people here who take Humira, does your insurance cover it? I really hope it works for you, superdj.

My insurance did cover it, but it took a little while, first we had to try other meds, then I had to have a TB test and blood tests and get approval and then it was sent from some pharmacy in FL (I'm in CA) and there was some mysterious delay between my medical group and the pharmacy. My doc was pretty confident we would get approved, I can't be on Prednisone forever!!!

Sorry Princess- maybe you can get your doc to appeal?

I just took my my fourth dose yesterday.
Before I started I was on 15mg prednisone, 150mg imuran and asacol, 3 pills 3x a day.

I have stopped the imuran, down to 10mg prednisone and 3pills, 2x a day with asacol.

Still in remission but it is early. I could never get below 15mg of prednisone before.

I am also using the injection pen. It helps to use an icepack on the area you will be injecting. If you recieved a Humira kit there is a small ice pack included.
It does give a slight sting but it doesn't bother me at all.

My insurance covers Humira plus the company that puts out Humira gives you a copay plus card. This covers your prescription copay costs so it is basically free. Ends up being cheaper than all the other drugs.

Still early but I will post follow ups.
