I asked this on the fibro forum because I wasn't sure if it was fibro related or what.  Which according them, it isn't.  I'm making a doctors appt tomorrow to find out why the heck my lymph nodes under my arms are so stinkin' painful!  Does anyone have a clue as to why a lymph node would start hurting?  I've had this gradual increasing pain under my arms (mostly my right) and the one near my breast for the past 2 weeks.  I used to have that under my right arm whenever I was due to start my periods but since I've had the ablation, my hormone cycle has been a bit messed up.  Normally though, during that time, the pain would only last about 3 days before I'm due to start.  I asked my doc about that once and she said it was common for some women to get increased pain in that area as well as the breast.  But this has been going on for a while now.  And it feels sort of swollen and it hurts alot when my arm rubs across.  Any ideas?

edited to add: I had an ultrasound and mammogram of my breast and lymph nodes about 6 months ago and everything looked fine.

Red, it can happen with hormonal or sodium/potassium changes, with any infectious disease or with an infection of the node itself. Good that you're seeing your doctor.

Hi Sherry...I agree it's good you'll be seeing the doctor. Best not to wait while worrying. It's a scary place to be.

I hope your doc will do the necessary tests to get a definitive answer.

Let us know the outcome.

When I was first diagnosed I started having the same problem. I saw the doctor and he said it was my hormones and wasn't worried about it. But you should have it checked out. Like quincy said it is a scary place to be.

Diagnosed in September 2004

Currently on...4800mg Asacol, 25mg Elavil, Ortho Tricyclen and some immodium

I'm not real worried about it because I've had this pain off and on due to my hormones for many years. But this is the first time that it has lasted for 2 weeks and the first time that I've been getting a deep throbbing pain. So this is something a bit new. I called the doc but I can't get in to see her until Wednesday.

Wednesday is soon....can you take Tylenol to help with the pain?

Have you been wearing a new bra?? Sometimes if there are any pressure points, it can cause incredible pain.

Yes, tylonel helps the pain and no new bra. In fact I don't even wear underwire ones because they caused too much discomfort in the past. I got a few nice ones from Victorias secret but I've had them for a while. What's real strange is that when I take my bra off for the night, the pain intensfies for a short period.

But I really GOT TO STOP reading things on the internet! lol When you do a google search for sore lymph nodes, you get a ton of hits for cancer. I highly doubt it's that but I have to admit, it does worry me a bit because of the 6mp and the rare risk of lymphomas. But I'm sure it's something simple and easily remedied.

hey sherry,
hope your doc finds out something that will help.
in the meantime, try not using any deodorant.
my hubby all of a sudden got horrible pain in his armpits and after much testing we discovered it was the deodorant he was using. he tried different brands and many that were not anti-persperants. now he uses a natural one (Tom's) and it doesn't cause him pain. but i think he said if he puts on more of it in the afternoon then he gets the pain.

anyway, something to try in the mean time!
