I have a dental appointment this afternoon. My dentist's office called this morning and said that they had talked to my orthopedist, who says I need antibiotics for dental work because of the implant in my shoulder. Great! One more thing to worry about.

They of course were going to order Amoxicillin before and after for me. I explained that I don't take cillins or cyclines because of my UC. She said "Oh, you're allergic?" I said "No, actually they give me bloody diarrhea." "OH!" she said, and hung up to talk to the doctor. End of story: he prescribed one large dose of clindomycin to be taken before the appointment, nothing after.

Always ask what you're being given and speak up to protect yourself. I should be fine with this, I'll take an extra probiotic at bedtime and I'll be very surprised if I have any problems.

This happens to a relative of mine with artificial aorta; they insist on giving her antibiotics before routine dental hygiene, let alone fillings, etc. The result is that she's afraid to go to the dentist & actually had a molar extracted last year rather than undergo root canal treatment + antibiotics! / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... I have to take 4 amoxicillians before any dental work or a cscope because I have MVP. It normally doesn't bother my Uc unless I'm flaring. Then forget it. Luckily though, they have done some research about antibiotics and some health conditions before any dental work and now they say that people with MVP don't need to take them. But I do anyway, just to be on the safe side.

Good luck Judy and I hope things go well for you. What are you having done?

Amoxicillin gave me diarrhea before i had UC, I'm not taking a chance on it now. I know I need to take the abx, I don't want to get a septic situation in that implant and destroy my shoulder joint of die of sepsis. I'm just choosy about what I'll take.

Off to the dentist. See ya'll later.

Ouch.

Clindamycin is probably the largest culprit in C-diff. I got my C-diff from Cipro, my nephew from Clindamycin, my aunt from Augmentin.

Please be sure to take your probiotics!!!!

I have an abscess. Starting erythromycin and have to see my periodontist on Friday.

As Roseanne Rosanadana used to say, it just goes to prove there's always something.
