These past several days I've had loose black fibery poop. I recently started Remicade infusions and I'm wondering if there's a correlation there. Has anyone else had this?

I've never had anything like that. Sounds more like something you've eaten. Think back to what you've been eating the past few days. I've never heard of Remi doing that.

I have had black poop, a couple of times, not sure what it was but the next day it was gone. I would not be surprised to poop plaid one day.

Any chance you took Pepto? I believe it can cause black stools.

There are a few things that can cause this, iron supplements, pepto, antibiotics, and even Oreo's! (for me at least)

I have black poop when it's full of blood. If it keeps up, call your GI. I never heard of that as a side effect of Remicade.

Too many iron supplements or medication can cause this...if it continues you might wanna get checked out.

Even though we live with this disease unfortunately it doesn't make us experts..... I would recommend calling your GI, better to be safe than sorry, especially when you are starting a new medication.

My GI isn't really concerned with the color unless it is very pale or white.

Weird that he wasn't concerned because black stools can be a sign of danger...bleeding high up, so he should be concerned.

I have UC so even though I have Pancolitis I never bleed higher up where it is black. If I was bleeding that much the GI would be the first to know.... if my stool is white or pale I might not report it if I wasn't informed that it was necessary to report it to him.

I agree that food or some meds or preparations can cause a black/dark stools...but the fact that yours are like that for the past few days and loose/fibrous...it definitely seems that something is going on.

I'm with the suggestion for you to see the doc and get it checked out (with stool samples, etc) as soon as you can get in. Don't wait.

Let us know what happens.
