Which antibiotic do you take for an ear infection/throat infection that doesn't cause diarrhea or stomach pain?  Last time I was on Amoxocillin I had to quit it, I had severe stomach pains and D.  I have been sick on and off for about a month and just can't seem to get rid of it, seems it's turned into a small ear infection so I am going to ask my GI to call in an antibiotic for me today.  I was going to ask for Zitromax or something, what ones have you all used?

I will only use Zithromax now because that is the only one that doesn't cause me any troubles. Definately stay away from any of the 'cyclines and 'cilians as they promote intestinal upset.

You might also look into natural alternatives to antibiotics such as wild orgegano oil or olive leaf extract. These are not only antibacterial, they're also antifungal and antiviral.

Regardless of which route you choose, be sure to follow up with high doses of probiotics to reestablish good gut flora.

I have no problem with Zithromax or Amoxicillin or Clavulin...

Zithromax should help if you've not been on it before...definitely take the probiotics. Afterward follow-up with princesa's suggestion of other natural antibiotics.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the replies.  I called my GI's nurse and asked them to call in Zithromax for me.  Quincy, I'm surprised you can take Amoxocillin.  I will try some probiotics after I finish the antibiotics.  Now my first Humira injections are moved to Feb 11th, if my insurance approves it by then.

My doctor told me Zitromax has the lowest incidence of digestive-related side effects (e.g. "D", stomach upset, nausea). I was on it a few months ago for a throat infection. I've also taken Amoxicillin for an ear infection and Augmentin (very strong antibiotic...after my tonsillectomy) with no problems.
