Question of the day - I seem to be full of them at the moment...

Have been put on a 2 week course of Augmentin duo forte - 1 tablet morning and evening.

Query is when to take the probiotics?

My guess is to take them at lunch time... Whats your take?

I believe you take the probiotic 3-4 hours after you take the antibiotic and several hours before the evening dose. The key is not to take them at the same time or the antibiotic will sweep out the good bacteria along w/ the bad.

I've heard taking them 2 hours minimum after the antibiotic. You may also consider taking some like Florastor or equivalent, because it is a probiotic yeast that will not be affected by the antibiotics (only antifungal), so you can take it whenever you want, even simultaneous.

Thanks for the advice - I am taking a 9 strain bacterial probiotic and the Australian equivalent of Florastor, the name of which escapes me just now.

My insides do seem to be better after adding the probiotics back in while on these antibiotics though :-)

I don't trust Augmenton. A month or so before I was diagnosed I had a bout of bronchitis and was prescribed Augmenton. My GI later said that this was probably what triggered my UC. It's safe to say I won't be taking that antibiotic again unless absolutely positively necessary.

I just added Erythromycin to my "can't take" list. Within 12 hours of starting it, I had D. By the time I returned to my dentist three days later, I was having that ominous heavy pain across my lower abdomen. I told him he could give me Zithromax, Cipro, or something injectable and syringes. He gave me the Z-pack and my pain was gone the same day, D. much better the next.

I think I'll just change from a "can't take" list to a very short "can take" list.
