I just want to take a second to vent to all of you out there who can relate.... I MISS EATING WITHOUT WORRYING about IT!!!!! Ugh. I used to eat like a tank, and be fine. now going to restaurants is a huge undertaking, because there are so few things I feel ok about eating.

Last night I made no-bake jello cheesecake, thinking that maybe I could handle that since it is relatively low fat and since I only had a very small amount. but no, up all night feeling sick, while my fiance ate 25% of the pie in one sitting (he is 6'4 and lean and can never get enough calories).

I know that 3 months I was eating whatever I want - that was when Imuran seemed to be working for me - and I know that I will get back to that place and be able to eat more variety than what I am currently ingesting but man, I miss salads and almonds and beans and ice cream... the list could go on and on..... anyway, thanks for listening, just had to get that out.
30/Female/NC
Pancolitis dx 3/07
9 Colazal a day (was on 12 Asacol/day, but suddenly got sick from it)
150mg Imuran/day (steroid dependent, reached this dose 9/07)
Various vitamins, bit of fish oil, a probiotic.

There were alot of things I missed initially, but I've adjusted over the years. It doesn't bother me much any more. And oddly, some of the foods I used to love turn me off now... particularly greasy stuff like a meat lover's pizza. It does get easier with time, particularly when you feel so much better.

Hopefully you can gain remission soon and get to eat some of the foods you have been craving.

Hi...try and focus on what you can eat and experiment. Try not to feel like a failure when you can't eat something that you don't feel good afterward...at least you know.

If it was a low calorie dessert, maybe there are artificial sweeteners in there than can make you feel crappy....check the ingredients.

If you find a recipe of something that you make from scratch as an alternative, at least you won't feel deprived.

Hang tough....

Princesa....meat lovers pizza?? I've never had one, but I'd imagine there is a lot of fat on it. Some foods we don't have to consume just because in general they're not so good for us anyway...even if we didn't have UC.

Yeah. I used to think it was the bomb, even though I knew it wasn't good for me. Now, when I see a close up shot of one on a commercial, I feel kinda disgusted. Looks very greasy and is obviously full of saturated fat and sodium. I feel the same way about these huge monster burgers they're always promoting. As I said in another thread, I'm ashamed it took getting desperately ill to make me clean up my act. But hey, that's the silver lining of having UC. I'm MUCH healthier and in better shape now. It made going to my 20 year reunion a pleasure. LOL

Yeah, they add more oil to make them glisten in the lights...more appealing apparently! NOT.

Your UC wasn't caused by foods, and it usually takes our body changes to force us adjust or completely renovate our eating habits.
Mine have always been pretty good, but sweets were definitely something I loved to eat. Not all, but my chosen few. Some I wouldn't even take a second look. Interesting what appeals.

Now if I can just get focussed on more exercising, I'll do well.

Happy to hear the 20th reunion was personally gratifying. Maybe seeing you encouraged others to make changes...you'll see at the 30th..;-)
