i read your thread about cutting out the wheat and dairy, if it's something your dr suggested and you want to try it is is a lot of work trying to keep them full (not hungry) i use soy for baking and breading-sautee chicken cutlets dipped in little bit of soy flour in soy butter, litle bits and soy butter for yams again little bit,
the reason your son May have felt exhausted when you cut out the wheat is it is like detoxing if you do it all at once -unless you have some other carbs going,
this happenend to my other daughter when she went on the south beach diet-and i've heard it from other people-that cuts out all carbs for the first 2 weeks and my older daughter got zonked-she did this away at school so it was something i learned about after the fact. cutting carbs cold turkey will zonk you -so try to find other sources of simple carbs if you want to cut out wheat. i think it's the complex ones like pasta and cakes and other... i'm only learning but i do think it is controling her frquency of diareah -and letting the colon heal so she has no blood right now, ihave to deal with each symptom as it comes up. i don't know if those were your sons problems.
. thinking of you!

Thanks so much. I remember going on a no carb type diet 20 years ago, and by the weekend, I could not get out of bed!! My son did go cold turkey, and I won't let him do that next time. He is learning to make better choices and is even reading labels, so I believe he is taking baby steps to managing this better. Sometimes it seems like it doesn't matter what he eats, and then the same foods will get him. He is having a colonoscopy tomorrow, so last night we went to Bonefish Grill and he ordered Bang Bang Shrimp, and a filet!!!!! Since he can't eat today (and it is the Super Bowl), I figured he could enjoy himself last night. He said he was fine through the night. Imagine :) Let's hope we get our children back on track to doing what they love to do, whatever that may be. For my son, it is lacrosse. I am praying he gets back with his team soon. Take care of yourself, and your daughter.

The doctor put my son on Prednisone last Monday, and it has been a miracle
worker.  He is doing great, 3-4 times per day, instead of 20.  I realize that is not the drug of choice, but the results for him have been very positive.  Maybe the side effects are going to get worse, but as of right now.....all is well. Sleeping, eating, going to school.  Even played lacrosse this week.
