Hello everyone...

I have been keeping something to myself because I didn't want to Jinx anything, (not that I'm superstitios or anything) but I have been in remission since December 11th, without any meds!  I was on my way home from Montana when I realized that I left my Rowasa at my cabin... unable to get a refill right away, I was nervous at first when I went a few days without any. Then I finally got my refill, but thought.. what the heck, I wonder how long I can go without any meds.... SO, I haven't used any of my U/C meds since Dec 11 and have been doing pretty darn good actually.

The longest I've been able to stay in remission since being diagnosed is 6 weeks and now I've beaten that record... I have changed my diet and now take Culturelle everyday which I wasn't at first. Also, my stress level is down now that hubby and I are getting along really well.....

I don't know if I should keep this up... although I really want to try and go without meds and see what happens..   I just had to admit and see what you all thought...

Hi Susie....well, if you've gone this long without Rowasa, then it seems OK. How often were you using them before you stopped?

I assumed you were taking Culturelle daily...you weren't until recently?

Stresses of the intimate kind can take an incredible toll on the body and its working systems....the fact you had a rest away and are doing better now that you're back speaks volumes.

All you can do is see how you do. Be smart about first symptoms without waiting too long once you've verified it's definitely flare related.

Keep well,
quincy

I will keep my fingers crossed for you and hope that your Uc stays in remission for a long time! But I agree with Q here, be smart about your symptoms and don't be in denial if you start noticing signs. :)

D'oh!!  I truly think that there is a time for most UCers where we try to ditch the meds, like it's a normal phase as part of the disease... since it's just the Rowasa, to me it's not that bad.  Much better than ditching Asacol like I did.  Some people are able to get off meds and stay off... some really lucky ones.  I hope you are one of them!  The worst thing about doing this is that the Rowasas might not work the same or you might have new side effects from them if you have to get back on them.  Then you have to try to find another med that works and that can be tough.  I wish you the best, though, really!

Hello again :)

Howdy Queen Q, I've been taking Culturelle for quite a while, but not when I was first diagnosed, maybe that had something to do with my not staying in remission for too long... who knows.... Also, I was taking Rowasa nightly... that's why I sorta freaked out when I realized I left them in Montana... but after a few days, I started to calm down and since I felt pretty good I thought I'd try and go without to see what happens.

And, wonderful Red, I am definately keeping an eye on my symptoms... My U/C usually starts out with a bit of nausea, then the bleeding starts.. But, so far so good and I truly feel that getting along with Hubby is the best thing I could be doing to help my stress level....

I'll keep you all posted and will definately check in from time to time to let you know my progress~!

OH, forgot to mention, I Have my Rowasa here now and won't wait at all if I start to flare again, and Princess... I Hope in my case I don't have any other or new side effects of Rowasa when and IF I start using it again....   I'll probably see you in Chat tonight!!! :)

Dakota, thanks for the cheers! I need all I can get... lol....

I hope it continues.I had very long remissions without meds. The longest was 3 years without any meds. You will know the warning signs of a flare and you can start the meds then if it goes well.
Hope this is a good start to a long remission

Congratulations. Miracles do happen...I too stopped meds and reduced stress and got better. I am at one formed BM per day. I am going on 3 months remission I would say and that's way longer than any remission within the last year and a half. I know that most people say the cause of the next flare will be b/c I stopped meds, but I would have to disagree. and I confess I am not sticking to my "healthy" diet like I should. I am just doing so much better. I stopped my 1200mg asacol and 150mg imuran b/c i lost a job and insurance. but at the time I lost my job my crazy baby mother gave me my toddler and she makes a world of difference in my life, plus I don't have to worry about all the negative things my baby went through with her mother. oh yeah I've been taking 2.5mg per day of prednisone until I run out in a couple of days...
Well best of luck to you and stay Healthy!
