So yesterday I went to work, and started feeling a little crampy, nothing too unusual though. Then around 11am the heartburn started followed by diarrhea (with small amounts of blood) every 15 minutes or so. Once I started vomiting around 12:30pm I decided it was definitely time to go home. I spent the rest of the night mostly curled up in a blanket with cold chills, terrible body aches like there were knives stuck in every joint, 102 degree fever, nausea, and stomach pain that went from the bottom of my ribs all the way down and through to my back. Eventually I gave up and took some NyQuil and went to bed. This morning I woke up and decided I was not feeling well enough to go to work which I have never once done in the whole two years I've been at this current job. I couldn't stand up or walk around without getting exhausted and my fever was still there.

It's 5pm now and overall I feel mostly better, but when I tried to eat something (some rice, first thing I've eaten since Monday morning) the stomach pain started right up and quickly developed into possibly the worst heart burn I've ever had. It's right in my stomach above my navel and radiating up into my chest and it feels like I swallowed a gallon of hydrochloric acid.

I called my doctor to see if they thought I should get some bloodwork done but they never called back. I thought I had the flu but this is no flu... Gastroenteritis/colitis flaring maybe? Any tips on how to calm this heart burn down?? I drank a few shots of Pepto but it hasn't even phased it.

On the plus side, I lost 5 lbs from all the vomiting and diarrhea! Hah.

Sounds like you need to get to the doctor! If you didn't have the blood in the stool I would say it sounds like a tummy bug. You probably are having all that heartburn from the throwing up. Have you tried a zantac or other acid reducer?

I am so sorry you feel so bad. Keep us posted.

Doesn't sound good edie... I think you should get to the doctor ASAP! It could be just colitis acting up, but the burning and fever could mean that something more is going on. I really don't think this is something you can just "ride out" at home.

Please keep us posted!

I'm feeling a bit better today but not 100%... The fever has gone down but I'm still wary of eating anything. If my doctor doesn't call me back by noon today I think I will give them another call and try to get in. I'll keep you all up to date... Thanks everyone!

There are alot of stomach bugs going around. One of my employees came in Monday, got sick in his office and left. He just returned to work today (Wednesday), but still isn't feeling too good. I had it right after Christmas. Once the worst was past, I started taking powdered Natren probiotics several times throughout the day and really bounced back quickly.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.
