Hi,  I'm new at this forum stuff. My daughter set this up for me.  I'm 65 and was diagnosed with UC 1 year ago.  First I had salmonella, then IBS and now UC.  I take Asacol 2 -  3x a day.  I take Entocort and Canasa when I have a flare-up.  I get a least 1 flare-up a month.  A flare-up can give me 20 bm's in a day.  It's crampy and bloody with mucus.  I'm in a flare up right now, this time with a fever.  I have an appointment with my doctor on Mon. I'm always hoping he'll come up with somethng new for me that will make this all go away.  This UC is a life style change and is depressing.  How do you deal with it.  It sure gets me down.  It's been a help just reading some of the things that has been posted here.  At least I know I'm not alone.  Thanks for posting all the good information.

Hi and Welcome! Sorry you are having a flare now. Right off the bat it sounds like you are not on enough Asacol. Most of us take 9/day when flaring. You may want to ask your GI about that.

You are definitely not alone (though I know it can feel like that). This is a great site w/ tons of information and lots of great people.

Have you ever considered talking to someone about being depressed?

Hi lenie! Welcome :)

I'd definitely ask about more Asacol when flaring. Six is a minimum maintenence dose.

Have you tried Rowasa or Colocort?

This disease can surely put the most up beat person down at times. Especially when you're flaring frequently or for a long time.

Definitely talk to your doc and let him/her know what you're feeling. If you don't like their response - find a new doc! It's essential to have a medical team that you can trust.

Hi, I will definitly ask about more Asacol when I see the doc on Monday. I take 6 a day but that doesn't keep me in remission. I can only go about 4 or 5 weeks and then I flare again. That's when I go on the Entocort and Canasa for 10 days. I usually am a very up beat person. I love to paint and garden but let me start flaring and it gets me down. I tell myself, this too shall pass. It is so great to have someone to talk to about this that understands. I'll let you know what the doc says on Monday. Thanks again.
