Hi, I have have been having some bad gas pains since I switched from Asacol to Colazal(generic) 2 weeks ago. My tummy gets these intense gas pains like I have to make a BM, but after about 10min or so it goes away. No passing gas no BM, nothing. I get these about 4-6 times a day. It happens at random. With no food, after I eat, and inbetween. Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of this?

If you're flaring, it could be that. I don't see you on rectal meds...could be helpful.

By "tummy"...do you mean right under your ribs or left side or right side...can you explain exactly where you're getting the intense pains? It's good that they go away....means things are "moving" in there....

It could also be the probiotic....or if you've been taking it for a while, then maybe not....you could try taking them all at bedtime on an empty stomach...works for me.

You could try taking digestive enzymes....although some can cause more gas than others..trial and error.

Have you had those symptoms since immediately starting the Colazal?

Maybe you could take the Colazal 2x daily instead of 3x?

Where is your UC limited to?

Are you taking any other supplements.....are you ingesting milk products such as yogurt?

You could ask your doc for a prescription of antispasmodics....I use dicyclomine (Bentylol/Bentyl)...even 10mg will help you a LOT!!

When you get the pains, if you're able to lie down, you could do a bit of a tummy massage starting at the lower right quadrant, up to the transverse, across and then down the descending. It helps me.
A microwavable heat bag is helpful too.

It's not a flare, I've been in remission for over a yr now. By tummy, I mean my stomach. Right in the middle. I did stop taking my probotic when I statrted the colazal, maybe I better go back on them huh? Since I drive a truck over the road, and far the last couple weeks, I have not been doing my daily streches and walks, that might be part too. Guess I better get back on the track that got in into remission in the first place and just keep it up.

I didn't have stomach troubles either until I started on Colazal but I thought it was a coincidence....maybe not after all huh? I started getting bad stomach pains like a little gremlin was in there sticking me with a spear but not all the time. Then things started getting worse such as I was having trouble swallowing and then I began to have a painful lump in my esophagus area. I finally told my GI about that, it was the painful lump that made me finally ask him. He put me on Prilosec and now all those pains are gone.

But if these pains persist, you might want to call your doc to see what he/she says.
