Anyone ever feel like when you are having a bad period, low back pain and the feeling like your insides are coming out during a flare? Haven't had a period since 1981 surgery but remember it well. Also, when I had the bad ones with lots of clots, etc. I always had a bowel interaction - loose stools to constipation, bloating, etc. I've had that during this flare/road to remission and the thing that helps is heat. I use my bean bag thing in the micro at home and LOVE the heated seat in my husband's car. I'm having no bleeding, just this feeling.

Diagnosed with LS UC 1984, suffered for 16 years, high doses Pred and eased off to Azulfidine; remission for 9 years, just flared recently. Asacol 3, 3x day; 20 ml. Pred.. Heading into remission again with addition of: prayer, deep breathing, walks on the beach and: 4-1000 mg.garlic twice daily; 2 zyflamend twice daily, SuperFoods RX multi-whole food vita twice daily, SuperFoods RX Omega 3; 3 Asacol 3 x day with 3 Vitamin Shoppe Ultimate 10 Probiotic; Metamucil morning and night - no dairy, hardly any coffee, lots of water and green tea. Was using L-Glutamine but read that it can aggravate?

Yes to the terrible low back pain. I describe it as a horse standing on my lower back. I guess that comes with any kind of pelvic inflammation, and the rectum is definitely in the pelvis. When it gets really bad, I lie on my back with my knees on a couple of pillows to relieve it.
Moderate to severe left-sided UC (21 cm) diagnosed 2001.
Asacol, Rowasa, Pentasa, Prednisone, Entocort, Azathioprine
Colazal,  Remicade, Nature's Way Primadophilus Reuteri.
In remission since April, 2006. Remicade has been my wonder drug.

I get the lower back pain as well.  I think they refer to it as "reffered pain"  Mine starts in the lower back on the left side and extends all the way up until it reaches my ribs.  So annoying.  Heating pad is my best friend.

diagnosed with left-sided UC in 1997.
Currently on 10mg Prednisone
12 caps of colazal
rowasa enema nightly

Regarding the question in your signature, I've never had problems with l-glutamine. Are you taking the pure powder form? However, I have had problems with garlic supplementation causing cramping and diarrhea. Probiotics can also cause problems for some folks and should be started slowly and gradually increased to a full dose.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.
Therapeutic dose sulfasalazine.
Probiotics, l-glutamine and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice and Mucosaheal. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal.

Yes, the powder - I don't think I've had a problem so probably should go back to it. I just read something that said it could cause problems but they were selling their own thing. One thing I've totally convinced of is that brands do matter. Interesting that you mentioned garlic, I ran out of the brand I've been using and changed and that's when I had some problems. The best one for me is Spring Valley odorless that I get at WalMart. The new one was more expensive but could be the culprit. Also ran out of the Omega 3 and I just re-ordered today. I get it from SuperfoodsRX and they now have a great packet that contains two of the superfoods tabs and one omega 3. FYI you can get a free 30 day trial on their website. I really feel better when I'm taking it. Thanks for your insights - that's why I love this forum, you learn so much. Happy Hearts Day!
