When I was at 60mg a day, I was crying a lot then the doc put me on 60/40 alt days and I was crying a lot less and now I am on 40mg a day as of 2/8 and I am starting to kind of feel like myself a little again, not so ho hum and some positivity, not sure if it's b/c of the pred or just me?

Hey Beth -- keep as positive an attitude as possible to keep the hum drums at bay. They are gonna happen because of the darn prednisone.

I have one of the easiest going even tempered husbands in the world and I have said before this drug turned him into a magilla gorilla sometimes. He would apologize almost immediately as he just somehow couldn't help himself.

I am so sensitive that it made me nuts too!!! Not to mention quite ticked off also as I was doing hell and all and feeling like "I don't deserve to be treated this way". I am just so grateful that he is not a cranky nasty kind of guy to begin with because I probably would have strangled him!

He is now off the prednisone and much much better. His patience level seems to have been impacted somewhat though. Kind of hard not to have it interfere with your personality when you go through all the ups and downs associated with UC and trying to attain remission.

When you're with someone for almost 40 years you know when to keep quiet and not push their buttons. Fortunately, overall we have found a way to make this work so that it doesn't hurt our relationship which was so perfect up until 2 years ago. So we are very lucky that this has only been what I would call a real bump in the road for being together for 40 years. We are blessed for sure.

To those of you struggling, this forum is a lifesaver, a wealth of information and a great support network to help cope with this. I am sure I would not be as centered handling all of this on his behalf without all the advice and assistance I have gotten from everyone.

On a more positive note, my son is doing great on it (started at 40 mg.). Bounces out of bed for school, seems more focused, doing sports again, and eats like a pig!! For him, that is a good thing (he had lost about 16 pounds). He did taper to 30 mgs. on Monday, and he did have to go more yesterday. I hope that was a fluke. I had said earlier the dr. told him not to take Asacol with the Pred., but he is starting again anyway, just in case.

Those pred mood swings were awful. Super happy one moment, to super sad the next, to super angry, the next... It sure made me feel like I wasn't ME!

I felt prickly and irritated the whole time. Since I knew there was no reason for it and lived in fear of going off on someone, I tried to keep to myself a lot.

I thought I was padded cell material at 60 mgs. Truly. I considered checking myself into a mental ward at a hospital. I simply could not stop crying. It was the worst.

If your mood is picking up and you're feeling better, I'm pretty darn sure it's cuz you're dropping back on the pred. I hope both continue for you, Beth!

thanks, I needed that! Good to know I am not losing it.

I keep on telling my husband, family and friends not to take anything I say to heart and I have been trying to be very mindful of what I do say, so hopefully it hasn't been too bad for them........not sure if they would tell me anyway. I do keep to myself sometimes knowing that I just want to be alone and will just curl up and read a book.
