Who helps you get through the hard times? For me my #1 stress reliever is my 2 year old Daughter Leyah Pie. When she was born I went into remission, when my family left me and her mother gave her back to me a couple months ago I went into remission...
But the person who has more understanding about my suffering is my mother Linda, I call her Lovelyness. She moved a block away from me to help with my daughter and my UC. She cooks sooo healthy for me. She went from cooking mostly mexican food before my UC to mostly vegetables now. She was always there for me even during my worst confusing flares and prednisone mood swings would drive me crazy, but she understood and took care of me. She is so incredably caring that I don't know what I would have done without her. She's the best. I know she'll never read this, but I love you Ma.
Severe Colitis (pancolitis) since January 9, 2005
currently:  I must say Under Control, 1 formed BM/day
RX/day:  2.5mg prednisone every other day
Lost job and insurance 10/2007 and stopped taking asacol and Imuran
(believe me I know my body and do not recommend doing this!!!)
OTC: seldom use VSL#3, vitamins & other natural treatments
Diet: SCD helps tremendously, but am not strictly on it. For Lent I gave up peanuts, sweets, and fried foods...

Great thread! I have a great support group around me. My mom, as yours, is the strength I don't always have. She has been there for me no matter what, even paying the bills that my husband and i can't. She goes to every doc appt and knows as much about this DD as I do. But my husband is the one that is here the most. He is a rock. This past year is the first flare he has dealt with and what a doozy to start with. I have gained so much weight on pred and as bad as I may feel about myself he is always there to tell me how beautiful i am and how much he loves me. I know how scared he is but he does his best to hide it from me, so i can be the one crying and have a shoulder to lean on. I love him with all my heart. I can't forget my best friend though. While my husband has only seen this flare my bff has been here for the whole ten years. lots of mood swings, crying, laughing...she really keeps me grounded. She is the one I can laugh at myself with. i can talk to her about poo and she doesn't find it strange or gross and she can always make me smile no matter how down i am. It's actually because of her that i first went to the doctor ten years ago. She saw how sick i was (i had been hiding it from everyone hoping it would go away) and she called my mom and told her how sick i was. Those three are my heart. They keep me strong and fighting.

Oh and of course my dog! Dog lover's know that a kiss from a pooch is all it takes to make a smile appear on the worst days.

My husband is my warm blanket and back stiffener during the bad times. My friends and co-workers also always make me feel so appreciated and loved when I'm sick - they can always tell because I have spot right between my eyebrows that turns really pink when I don't feel good.
Moderate to severe left-sided UC (21 cm) diagnosed 2001.
Asacol, Rowasa, Pentasa, Prednisone, Entocort, Azathioprine
Colazal,  Remicade, Nature's Way Primadophilus Reuteri.
In remission since April, 2006. Remicade has been my wonder drug.

my husband, who like kb called her husband he is a "rock", but he also keeps me strong. My bff always calls to check on me especially when she knows I am getting a test done she wants to know how it goes, both my Aunts are great and a friend/coworker has really been there for me too.

What a nice thread :) I loathe having to rely on anyone for anything but there are times that I just don't have a choice. So for me, my husband is my love, soul mate and rock. He has always been there for me thru my many health crisis's and he can make me laugh when I think things are at their worse. He cried with me when I got my diagnosis and reassured me when going for my many tests. I would totally be lost without him. Him and I have been together now for 21 years :)

Another person for me to lean on is my awesome mother in law. She has helped so much over the years that I don't know how I can ever repay her. When I think about it, I really do have a great support network of both family and friends.

Nice thread - we also have great friends who have been so supportive since this happened. I have a sister who lives nearby too. Unfortunately both our parents are gone - I do miss being able to pick up the phone and speak with my Mom over things. My Mother-in-Law was a real sweetie too.

However, since we relocated to Florida and both Moms had gotten on in years with their own problems before passing away, we probably would have not confided too much as we would have given them something else to be worrying about.

It has been 3 and 3 1/2 years since we lost both of them but I still miss being able to pick up the phone and hear their voices. So for those of you who still have them and can be comforted by them that is a gift in of itself even when you're not doing all that great.
