I have been on Culturelle two weeks as of today and it's made a world of difference. I am tapering off Prednisone and a few days ago I went down another 5 mg to 15 mg a day (tapering from 40 mg this time 'round); when I get down to 15 mg is when I usually start to experience problems, but so far, so good!! I really think I am in remission finally.

about three days after I started the Culturelle I experienced an extremely gassy day (thank goodness I work alone, or at least not with any people around, just dogs), but that was the only negative and it was brief.

Today I finally felt my steroid-fueled appetite start to abate somewhat. I am being satisfied with normal sized meals and dpn't feel the nonstop urge to snack.

Life is good!

Meesh...that is great news! I used it when my son (he's 2 1/2) had a stomach bug a few months ago. He doesn't have UC but it helped him sooo much..

Meesh - I did some reading on this....due to the way these capsules are packaged I am assuming no refrigeration is needed??

This would be good for travel as the acidophilus we take needs refrigeration after opening. The acidophilus pearls do not and that is what I use for travel but this product seems to have a high dose of live cells which interests me.

That's right, refrigeration is not necessary; that said, I'd avoid putting them in a hot car or back pack. They come packaged with each capsule sealed in foil. I remove a week's worth and place them, along with a fish oil capsule and a multivitamin in a week long pill strip; separate from my meds just because they won;t all fit in one strip. I find putting them out like that is the only way I can comply well with taking meds and supplements.

Fatboyslim, got this link from Google http://www.victoriahealth.com/vhstore/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=3547&gclid=CPyIv7bE0ZECFQEcQgodIxdTZw

Not cheap though,at 22 pounds for a months supply. However,if it really works,I guess it would be a small price to pay.

thanks Meesh - refrigeration is the problem for us when we travel - the acidophilus pearls work out well but I would like to compare the amount of live cells/cost/etc and maybe these would be more beneficial for the travelling aspect

At present we are enjoying a pro biotic that are flavored and chewable and seem to be working well -- with all the meds he takes I try to keep it a little interesting and not have everything have to be swallowed with a glass of water. (We use the caramel calcium chews so it's like having a piece of candy instead of another "horse pill" as he calls them...lol)

Thanks for the reply.

Maybe there is another brand with the same strain. I did a little searching: Lactobacillus casei sp strain GG, though they usually shorten it to Lactobacillus GG--it might also go under the strain "ATCC 53103". Seems to be an all around good probiotic for a variety of diseases and ailments, not to mention well documented.
