I've actually been doing pretty good Uc wise for the past 3 weeks.  In fact, I was afraid of saying anything in fear of jinxing myself!  :-)   But I am in remission, I go to the bathroom 1-3 times, no blood, no mucous - in fact, I'm NORMAL - except for the pain.  It's not like the typical "white knuckle" pain associated with a flare.  The pain is sporadic thru out the entire day and it feels like I'm getting kicked in the gut when I do go to the bathroom.  But the off and on pain I get is like sharp pokes in my upper left side and lower right side.  I've also been getting alot of stomach pain and discomfort - but once again, that's sporadic and I never know what's going to trigger it.  Does anyone have any thoughts on that?  My hips have been hurting me again and I'm going in for another round of steroid shots in my SI joints on Friday, do you think that this can be referred pain from the SI joint?  All I know is that my poor gut feels abused and I don't think it's fair to be going thru that while in REMISSION  eyes   :-)

Hi Sherry...unfortunately, it seems there's inflammation with gas pains and if you're having it while having bms, it's pretty much a clincher.

Of course, IBS can cause all those wonderful symptoms...

I flare with no blood....bleeding isn't always a symptom when there's mild inflammation...which is good in your case..it means things aren't as fragile.

Are you still on any rectal meds?

I think you should still ask the doc for an antispasmodic...that can help with some of those symptoms.

The sacro could cause you some symptoms, but I'd lean more towards it being both. Hope the shots help give you some relief.

You need a break at least longer than a short time.

My situation is similar. Though I am having 4-5 bm's, no blood, no mucous, lots of pain. I've been on antispasmodics with no relief. They are worth a try though. I would give your gi a call so your pain doens't snowball into anything else.

Q, I would THINK I was in a flare if it wasn't for the lack of symptoms. I truly feel normal and I have never ever had a flare with no bleeding - though who knows the weird twists this DD can take? So I don't feel this is Uc related or at least I don't think so? But no, I'm not on rectal meds at the moment - just Colazal and 6mp. You know, even after having it for so long there can be times that it makes me feel newly diagnosed!

The antispasmodics - do they make you tired? Do you take them everyday or only when the pain or cramping comes? I don't have an appt with my GI until May, so I might give him a call to see what he says about the pain and yes I do get cramping too.

I know what you mean but I don't know what it is. Even though I'm in remission and have normal solid bms I still sometimes have cramps along with it, even though there is no d

Sherry...you'll know soon enough if it's a flare...your suspicions will serve you well the next time if it indeed is true.

I would suggest you still do the rectal meds....especially if you have the white-knuckler symptoms during bms.

I use Bentylol (dicyclomine), and the 10mg will relax you somewhat...but I wouldn't think it would even compare to any type of narcotic pain killers.

HI Sherry,

I agree with Quincy on the rectal meds and definetley an antipasmatic pill.  I take Levbid and it can make you tired.  I hope you feel better soon.

Stacy

Current meds are:

Asacol 6 pills a day
Lexapro 20 mg once a day
Ativan .5 mg when needed
Canasa when needed

Q, I stated that it's NOT the typical white knuckler :) Trust me, I know when I have those that I am definately flaring! No, this is more of feeling like a mule kicks me in the gut (high up in the intestines) as the stool is coming out. It's such an odd feeling. I'm going on week 3 of this sensation and my symptoms haven't changed at all for better or worse. Then I get these pings of pain in the upper left and lower right but nothing in between.

I definatly am going to bring this up to my GI when I see him next, I was just curious if anyone else experiences this or I'm the odd duck?! :0)

Hi Sherry...I agree with seeing the GI, but make the appointment to see him asap rather than waiting.

If it's during bms, that would more than likely be inflammation or spasming. Since it's all day long, it's for sure spasming. The antispasmodics should be considered...that will help.

You do have IBS as well..right? Add all the pain in your back, it won't be helping either.

You mention not around period time...it could, however be related somehow since things were wonky with that for a while.

Lots of stuff happening in the same area. Hard to distinguish sometimes.

Hope the shots bring some relief.

I still think you could try the rectal meds...even every second night to see if it helps.
