Hello everyone,

I finally got the results of my sigmoidoscopy and it was normal.  My GI sent me for a SBFT last week and now I am waiting on the results of that.  Everything keeps coming back normal but I still have symptoms diarrhea, constipation, stomach cramps and pains and joint pain.  The only test that came back elevated was my CRP which means I have inflammation somwhere in my body.  I would think it would be my joints since they are so painful.  My CRP level was 1.38.  Any thoughts?

Do you have IBS Stacy? If so, this can account for the symptoms with a clear sig. And of course the joint pain could be arthritis especially with an increased CRP. Have you been tested for RA?

I do believe I have IBS.  I also was tested for RA and it was negative.  I never had any of these symptoms before being diagnosed with UC.  Just sucks and can be confusing.  I can't eat large meals and nausea is always there.

Stacy, have you ever tried a PPI such as Prilosec? I used to get nauseas very easy too and I started taking Prilosec and now I don't get nauseas too often anymore - however I was also showing signs of gastritis so I'm sure that didn't help! It could be that you have a "mix" of things going on so I think that can be confusing in itself.

I think your right Sherri.  I go see my PC tomorrow and I think I will ask her for one.  I have been taking Levbid when it gets really bad.

Sometimes it helps to get to the source of the nausea and not just treat the symptom. Acid reflux can also cause the stomach cramps and pain or even gastritis or H.pylori. Does your stomach pain get better after you eat? If so, then have you been tested for H.Pylori? H.Pylori too btw, can cause some of those other symptoms you are having such as D and C. But if it comes out clean, you can have a combo maybe of IBS, Acid Reflux and maybe another form of arthritis. Your joint pain, where do you feel it the most?

elbows, knees and big toe!  Weird isn't it?  When really bad I get it in the shoulders also.  I did see a rheumatologist a while back and he said it was arthritis from the UC.  I take it that doesn't go away even when in remission.

Current meds are:

Asacol 6 pills a day
Lexapro 20 mg once a day
Ativan .5 mg when needed
Canasa when needed

Well those are spots where I get joint pain too, not the shoulders but all the others you said... my GI said that is classic UC arthritis. Do you drink milk, have you tried keeping a food diary? I know you must be really frustrated with the results of the test since you are feeling so lousy.

Sorry to hear you are having these problems Stacy. It really does sound like IBS to me, maybe something you are eating is causing these pains.IBS is so common for us to have as well.I would say the joint pain may be Arthritic.I hope you get some answers soon, good to seeya!
