Hi Everyone,

I have just been put on a Vitamin D trial to test its efficiency in reducing symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis...

Just had a 200,000 UI jab on my backside!

Has anybody else been on this?

I'll keep you posted with results...

200,000 UI? Wow! Is that safe? Is it vitamin D or the activated form of 1,25D? The latter is supposed to hold some promise.

200,000 units? That sounds dangerously high! Beware: vitamin D is not water-soluble so that it stays in your tissue for a good while & can be toxic at high doses. I got very sick from a vit D megapill my gastro prescribed a couple yrs ago on the basis of a vit D25 blood test result. Some forms of D can also cause allergic reactions. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

I can't remember which one it was, but the doctors did say it was pretty safe.

Interesting. Definitely keep us posted as to how you do. How long is the trial? How often do you have to have injections?

The trial is only a one-off infusion at the moment and I am to see the specialist next Friday to discuss the results and the possibility of another infusion in three months time.

Just wondering if you had a vit D25 test prior to this injection,  & if so, what level did it report? / Old Hat

Wow...it does sound like a lot..I, too, am interested in if the doc did the D level test before you had the jab...as well your liver enzymes.

I'll have to do some reading on it....interesting.

No, I didn't have a D Level Test or Liver Enzyme Test either.

They did check my past blood tests though.

So you're feeling about the same as before the vit D injection? If yes, you're likely out of the woods. My bad reaction started ca. 3 hrs after swallowing vit D megapill : major headache. / Old Hat

I feel pretty good actually. I think the inflammation has gone down slightly, as I can't feel the usual burning I get throughout the day.

But, I think a proper blood test will confirm that.

Gargamel,
Next time you go in, I would be curious on more of the details if possible. I'm pretty sure 40,000 IUs is toxic, when ingested. I've been interested in what effects vitD would have and maybe the activated form is already being tested on people. And taking a shot rather than ingesting it would also have different effects, I imagine (maybe that is why it can be a higher dose). Yes, why a shot, to be sure?
