Hi Everyone,
Its been a while since I've been on.
I'm feeling better, the imuran is really making a difference in my life.
I still have quite a few bm's a day but no blood :-)
The thing is I am sooooo tired all the time. Is it the winter? Is is
just having colitis in general? I have thalsymia so I can't take iron.
I have to go for blood work next week.
Does anyone else feel just fatigued?

Thanks for listening
Donna

My husband was ALWAYS tired from the UC, especially after eating. He'd sleep 10 hours or more, wake up, eat, take meds, and then be back to sleep for another three hours. Some meds may make you tired, but most of his sleepiness came from the disease itself.
Husband diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2003(?)
Hospitalized 4 times
Asacol, Imuran, probiotics, fish oil, Vit D, Librax, Zoloft, Metamucil
Surgery scheduled for Feb. 11
2/11/08 - Colon removed! Jpouch surgery will come later - tapering off pred, healing from surgery, and shedding those pounds gained during all the pred induced snacking!
Ileostomy is working well - I think we might be getting our lives back!

Ever since going on Imuran, I have definitely been a lot more tired. The winter isn't helping things either(this said as I hear the snow plows going down my street again--gotta love Chicago!).

I think it's just the UC. tjf and I posted on the tiredness recently as well. Somedays it seems like I could sleep forever... Bloodwork was all good. But a nap would be wonderful!
Pan-colitis and GERD diagnosed May 2003

Asacol 12 per day,  Azathioprine 75mg, Aciphex, Effexor XR, Forvia and a Probiotic
Osteopenia (hip and spine) from prednisone use.  Started Azathioprine because I was steroid dependent.

I think it's the Imuran.  I am taking it and sound just like you... it's finally clearing up my UC and I'm feeling good in that aspect but I'm just so tired.  And it's not really an "I'm tired I could sleep all day" type, it's more of an apathetic, lethargic feeling.  I have to force myself to do so many things.  I am in Chicago in the middle of crappy weather so while I think that isn't causing my fatigue, it certainly isn't helping!  Sunshine hurry up! :)

Hi Donna, good to see you again and I'm so glad that Imuran is helping you! It could be the combination of both the Uc and the Imuran. I know I was always tired before I started 6mp and it became even worse after I started it. Are you on a good vitamin at the moment? If not, you might want to look into an iron free vitamin and maybe this can help you get your pep back. What about your B12 levels? Have you had them checked lately?

I'm tired all the time! I'm always on here complaining about it! I just a ton of bloodwork done and it was all normal. I blame it on the meds and UC in general.

I started 150mg azathioprine a month ago and I've noticed terrible bouts of tiredness. I specifically asked the registrar when I was at the hospital a couple of weeks ago. She said categorically it could not be the azathioprine and that it was the inflammatory processes going on in my body as a symptom of the UC.
Diagnosed Indeterminate Colitis 25/11/2007 (update: told by consultant 15/01/08 in his opinion definitely UC). 1 x Solofalk Enema/day 40mg Prednisolone 35mg Prednisolone 30mg Prednisolone 20mg Prednisolone 25mg Prednisolone 20mg Prednisolone 15mg Prednisolone 4g Pentasa/day

Now on 150mg Azathioprine/Imuran, back up to 40mg Prednisolone, Omeprazole 20mg, 2 x Calcium Adcal D3

It's common with IBD to feel tired, read this...

Fighting fatigue

DEAR DOCTOR: I’m a 53-year-old male who was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2000. My intestine was blocked and 12 inches of my bowel was removed. My biggest problem now is that I’m always tired. My only medication is a B12 shot every three weeks. Should I be taking anything else?

DEAR CCFC MEMBER: Fatigue is a common complaint of patients with Crohn’s disease, even when they are in remission. In general, fatigue can be explained by nutritional deficiencies from either active disease, previous surgical resection or bacterial overgrowth. This includes vitamin B12 deficiency or iron deficiency.

Many patients with a chronic disease (especially chronic inflammatory diseases) will experience fatigue because of the underlying chronic inflammation and the struggle of your body to try to control this inflammation, thereby expending “internal” energy.

Other causes of fatigue, which may not be directly related to Crohn’s disease, such as depression, thyroid problems and hematological problems should be explored.

:)

Interesting about the Imuran . . . I have correlated my exhaustion with that. I used to be an exercisaholic and had to stop due to tremendous lack of energy.
