Mucus is secreted by your colon wall as a protective lubricant to ease things through. Usually it's a small amount and you never see it. When you start seeing mucus, it signals that your colon is inflamed and you're likely headed for a flare. This is the appropriate time to look into rectal medications, increased probiotics or whatever other techniques you use to handle flares.
