I cannot drop UC meds, even in remission. Past history shows I would flare again in about 3 weeks. As to your Q what does the colon look like in remission-- this would vary among patients depending on the severity of their UC & the length of time since diagnosis. In the absence of inflammation the colon mucosa should look light tan to pale pink in color & have a fairly round lumen. Some UC patients have visible scarring, though &/or shortening in total length of colon, or thinning of the mucosa that shows up in biopsy samples from colonoscopy. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)

I never come off of my meds. As long as things are working and keeping me symptom free, I see absolutely no reason to change - and that becomes even easier now that I am not planning on anymore children.

Diagnosed April 1998 - Pancolitis
Currently on (per day):
Pentasa 4 gms
Imuran 100 mgs
