I have been sticking with the exercise.  I did screw up and ate crap Saturday but I learned my lesson after being on the tiolet all night that night.  I feel so much better about myself knowing that I am doing the best I can for my body.  And I have been feeling stronger. Only good can come from this!  To anyone who hasn't started yet or has had setbacks, come on and join in, you can do it. yeah

I started walking on the treadmill Saturday, but only for a short time. I had my epidural injections on Friday so I'm still a bit tender at the injection site. But once I'm up for it, I plan on getting a work out tape. Any recommendations? I'm looking for NO YOGA, lol tried that once and I thought I was going to die because I couldn't move the next day. I'm looking at maybe a low impact cardio workout video.

Well good for you guys that are exercising and for sticking with it...it's not easy but it's sure worth it.

Unfortunately I woke up this morning feeling like I've got the flu comming on, a swollen feeling throat, sniffles and a headach, so I can't work out until I'm well again...it's strongly advised one should never exercise during a cold/flu as it will prolong the flu/cold if you do.

I hate when this happens, thank goodness I only had one other cold a while back, but when it lasts a long time and you can't exercises it makes it really hard to get back to it again, however that said, I'm glad I always do because when if I don't exercise I feel like crap in general.

:)

I went to yoga tonight after missing it all of last week and it was great! I still need to work on getting more cardio in, but at least I did something.

Sorry to hear you feel like you're getting the flu, pb4. I hadn't heard that it was bad to exercise when having a cold. I think light exercise is okay, depending on how bad you feel. I actually read an article once that said if you do some light exercise (like walking) right when you first feel a cold coming on, it might actually help out your immune system fight it off. At any rate, hope you feel better soon.

Keep up the exercising everybody! =)

I think I want in on this... I need something to take my mind off my ongoing flare. I'm going to try and do 20 minutes on my cycle trainer. I desperately miss my mountain bike. Does anyone have any suggestions for some easy excercises to help regain balance and core strength? I was looking at getting a Bosu ball but they are way to expensive. With my current flare I have no interest in going to the gym, so I'm only looking for home exercises. Does anyone know of a really good Yoga video to learn and follow at home?

I was on the treadmill for 35 min before I had to have a bm and then just went home. sometimes I have a 6pm poo.

when in remission my old poo time was 10:30am

now that I have gone through a major flare, my poo times changed and are 6:30am and sometimes 6pm.............weird.

my calves are sore today, I did a bit of an incline yesterday and man do I feel it. But the gym is on my way out of the office and I have my gym clothes with me today........so I really ought to go and at least do some other things........but I just want to eat a giant italian sub w/salt and vinegar chips............GAH! needless to say these would not be good on my low carb/low salt part of my diet. WAAAAAA and it's snowing again (100 inches so far this year) so I just know I will somehow justify to myself not to work out. I just want to roll on the floor and kick and scream like a two year old. I am so annoying myself! flipping pred!

I really like the Prevention Exercise video "Get Moving" I got at Walmart.  It has a 20 minute yoga workout on it as well as a good aerobic workout and core workout (the hardest for me).  I wish there was a Prevention Yoga only video because I really love the simple and clear way they do it on the Get Moving video but I'd like to do more.  I bought the AM and PM Yoga DVD and I hate it.

Numb - I have heard that many of the Rodney Yee yoga videos are good. I have a Rodney Yee Power Yoga video, which is a little more of a fast-paced yoga. I also have "Yoga for Beginners" with Patricia Walden. I've only watched it once or twice...it is very much for beginners I think. There is a special section that goes very slowly teaching you all the different poses and there is also a booklet the dvd comes with that has pictures and explanations of all the poses. Then, there is a second section where she does all the poses together in a slow succession. I personally can't really get into yoga dvds...I much prefer taking a class in person, but they are better than nothing. Pilates is also very good for working the core muscles. There are lots of pilates videos out there, but I don't know which ones are good or not. You could check on Amazon.com and look at reviews.

Iyengar yoga is good for core, I think, because he developed it with ailing or injured people in mind. If you're near a Border's bookstore, you'll likely find his stuff in their Fitness section. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

I forgot that I have a Rapid Results Pilates video, which is pretty cool. I think it because it is split into four 10-minute workouts and a 10-minute stretch/cool-down, so it's nice if you're short on time. It gives me a pretty good work-out for my abs, legs and arms. You do need light handweights for the arm section. I use 3-pound weights.

I'd like to join if you all don't mind (if you all would rather I didn't, I so totally understand). I used to walk/run faithfully for a year and a half until my son's flare got really bad, then I just didn't want to even leave him for the 45 minutes. Then when my daughter got sick as well, I fell into a deep depression, lost weight and motivation. I'm on antidepressants now and have gained my weight back, but it is all flab from doing absolutely nothing. Thankfully both kiddos are doing well at this time.

Again, I'd love to join in, but totally understand if you all would rather I didn't!

Keylime, you should totally join in!!!

I didn't work out last night, I used all my excuses and I could have at least done sit ups at home but was just tired. At least I did not eat too much.

Will be going to work out tointe, can't wait. I feel really good. I want to get some leg muscles again, I haven't been working out much the past year and it shows. have not decided if I will do the treadmill or elliptical, probably do the treadmill then the leg machines.

Keylime - You can most definitely join us! The more the merrier!

I did 35 minutes of pilates last night. Tonight, I'm going to a 30-min. YogaButt class and might stay for a regular yoga class afterwards if I feel up to it. This will be 3 days in a row of exercising, which is almost unheard of for me! haha

I did 40 minutes on the elliptical this am. Followed by gorging myself on chocolate cadbury eggs. Darn that Easter candy...it is by far the most supreme of all the holiday candies...ha ha! At least I worked out:)

Just remember to keep those treats at a minimum ladies....even with exercising regularly the theory still holds true when it comes to you are what you eat....and your energy increase will happen more rapidly if you're eating healthy.

Glad to see you guys putting such an effort in, keep up the good work!!

I've been working out my entire life.....well okay since I started gymnastics and cheerleading at 12. Just take your time. You'll be up to 40 minutes in no time! I am doing the running leg of a sprint triathalon w/ hubby later this year. Gotta work on my speed and endurance. It is for a charity close to my heart so I have to do well!

Thanks for the reminder on eating healthy PB. I had carrots before the chocolate so therefore I negated the negative effects of the candy...ha ha.
