Whats a flare and whats remission? I have intestinal issues everyday, I have diarrhea all day long or lose stools all day. The only time I have hard stool is when I take imodium a couple days in a row.  The days of loose stool I go at least 5 times in 1 hour. Just when I think I am done, mucus comes out and I feel very weak and sick. Is that a flare?   When I was diagnosed in 99 I was put on Asacol and felt a little better. Second pregnancy I got better, but still always in the bathroom. I had complications in the first three months, felt weak and sick alot. But then jumped from 108lb to 160lb. Is that remission?  If symptoms improve alittle, is that remission?   I don't know very much about UC, I always blamed intestinal issues on something else so I didn't do much research on UC.  The stuff I do know scares the heck out of me!

Flares are defined by disease activity. If you are having symptoms and are on anything other then maintanance meds (such as Asacol, Lialda, or Colazal) then you are in a flare.

Remission is defined by LACK of disease activity. This is when you have no symptoms at all and feel almost normal.

Please read up on Uc. Just because you don't know about it, doesn't mean it will go away - unfortunately :( The more you know the less scared you will be.
