Hi everyone I am experiencing some interesting things. I feel constipated. I am going to the bathroom but not a lot, and for several years now I have not really eaten a lot of fruits and veggies because of the uc issues. Now I am thinking that I should start but I am scared. Where should I start? I've always been able to eat cooked veggies but they have not helped the issue. I am thinking of getting some grapes, strawberries, prune juice etc.....It would be nice to eat these things again.

How far along are you? I battled major constipation at the beginning of my pregnancy. It was my understanding the pregnancy hormones can throw the digestive tract for a loop (I wasn't even diagnosed w/ UC while I was preggers). Anyway I upped my fiber intact and it really helped. After the first trimester I became regular again.

Constipation is very, very normal during pregnancy. I also was very constipated during my first trimester when I was pregnant. A fiber supplement worked for me. I just took Metamucil every morning and it regulated everything. So, you may want to give a fiber supplement a try.

Other than that, you should enjoy eating some things that you never do!

When I first got pregnant I too was constipated. I wasn't sure what was going on since I was also used to always going to the bathroom. As the others have mentioned, my OB said it was a combination of the pregnancy hormones and the prenatal vitamin most likely. Her recommendation was to drink LOTS and LOTS of fluids, which was great because all I really wanted in my first trimester was grape juice for some reason. I drank a ton of water and had a BIG glass of grape juice every morning. The constipation started to get better mayber around week 10 or so, I can't completely recall.

Here's to a happy and healthy 9 months to you and your baby!

Oh and I forgot to mention, but my OB was also big on exercise/walking when pregnant. She said that would help with the constipation to just get out for a walk. I was terrible about doing that in the first trimester, because it was winter, I was exhausted and felt sick, but I could see how a brisk walk could also help get things moving (so to speak).
