ok people- you tell me, which is the best tasting flavor packet to mix into your colonoscopy prep stuff? I picked up my jug today.... not doing the prep 'til Thursday, but I had no other chance to get the stuff before then. So what do you all think- which flavor does taste the best???

You know, quite frankly, they are all fairly nasty (it's very salty). I went with the lemon-lime as for some reason salty lemon is less objectionable to me than salty cherry or orange. You've just got to buck up and tough it out. If you can get all the way through the jug and present the next morning with a squeaky clean intestinal tract you'll have better results on the colonoscopy and less of a chance of having to redo it sooner.

Stay close to the bathroom ... I moved the TV so I could see it from the throne and pretty much stayed put. ;-)

Just remember it doesn't have to be done all that often and the prep is the worse part, once that's over the next day is not that big a deal, you'll be sleeping through the procedure. I wish I had my husband, who was in the waiting room and had driven me there, come in when the doctor discussed my results as I was too groggy to take it all quite in. That was when I received my diagnosis. I since switched GIs as that Dr was terrible. Make sure you have someone with you when the results are discussed if that occurs same day when you first come around.

Good luck!!

If you pour only 1/3 of the phospho into a full glass of clear cold beverage at a time then you won't taste it at all or notice the oily consistancy of it either...doing this 3 times in a row will get an entire 45ml bottle down, as you're suppose to take it with plenty of fluids anyways, then follow with plenty of water. After basically 17 yrs of doing preps this is the easiest way to deal with phospho soda.

See if you can use it instead of the jug of go-lytely or whatever jug they've asked you to drink.

I took regular countrytime lemon aide and mixed it up untill it was er quite strong. It did enough to cut the taste and I was able to chug it all down.

Are you doing the HalfLytely prep? I personally wouldn't mix mine with anything because it might make it harder to get it all down than the taste of the stuff itself. Or you could try mixing a little bit of the flavoring in a glass of it, that way if you don't like it you don't have a whole half gallon to drink. I tried my GoLytely with some Crystal Lite lemon flavoring and it made it taste horrible. I really didn't think the prep alone was that horrible tasting as long as I washed it down with a couple gulps of gatorade or juice after each drink. I drank lemonade flavored and lemon-lime flavored Gatorade during the prep. Good luck!

yeah, the half-lytely is what I've got. All the instructions tell you not to drink any liquids with the prep, but you all have followed up with Gatorade & such? huh. I'm pretty good about drinking yukky stuff- is it worse than the contrast they give you for abdominal CAT scans? that stuff is pretty bad too. I'm hoping my GI doesn't try to talk to much after the scope- when we last spoke on the phone, we talked about Humira- depending on the scope, that may be our next route, as I'm one of those lucky ones for whom Remicade has failed. Great! eyes

I've only had the GoLytely, but I could drink clear liquids up until 3 hours before my prep. It would have been awful if I couldn't wash it down with anything. Jello helped me get rid of the taste a lot, too. I'd take a bite of jello after taking a drink. And coffee helped cut the taste, too. Maybe you could double check with your doctor about that because I just looked up HalfLytely instructions on the Web and they say you can drink clear liquids with it. http://www.halflytely.com/cons/faqs/faqs.html#4

No, I thought the CT contrast was much, much worse than the prep. The contrast I had was disgusting and I couldn't even finish it b/c it made me feel like I was going to throw up. I was also really sick at that time though.

I thought of one other thing that really helped both curb hunger and get rid of the yucky taste: popsicles

I had to drink magnesium phosphate something or other once and I went with the lemon lime... it really wasn't all that bad! As someone above me said, it is pretty salty and I can't imagine salty cherry flavored stuff tasting good at all, especially since cherry medicine is usually the worst.

I would go with the lemon lime, make sure it's really cold and drink it as fast as possible. I too chased mine with some sips of gatorade or water, I figure if I'm going to be pooping out EVERYTHING anyway what difference does it make? ;)

And yes, the CT contrast is MUCH worse!!

Good luck!

Fleet's Phosphosoda!!! It's goes down fast and easy! WAY better than the jug! I got offered the jug once, gagged on two cups of the stuff, called my GI (or the resident anyway), and he said just do Fleet's--never had a problem with the colonoscopy doing it this way!

Though the mandatory flavor given to me was pineapple--which was beyond disgusting!

Here's my philosophy on taking laxatives to clean out your system:

Do not take the one you like the most, as you will associate it with going to the bathroom, feeling hungry, and colonoscopies. I have done that with lemon-lime Gatorade and now I have a hard time drinking it as I ruined that flavor for myself

hope this helps
4g - Pentasa per day
100mg - 6-mp per day
1 multi vitamin per day

I had GoLytely. I used sugar free Kool-Aid lime. It tasted 'ok' to me, but I still don't want to drink lime or eat lime jello. I suggest you choose a flavor you don't normally drink of or eat jello in that flavor. It is yucky, but worth the test results, especially to have a clean colon!
