Sorry for the long subject line.   I've tracked this and realized that after a month since coming off the pred, I'm using the Canasa every two weeks for a couple of days (2 a day).

Is this my best? Why do I still bleed, have diahrea or constipation and a sore bottom when going number 1 or number 2?

Should I be doing better than this?  Is this "normal?"   I tend to think that dealing with this every two weeks is stressful in itself.  I really don't want to go to a stronger med or back on pred.

Just wondering if anyone else faces this and what are others thoughts?  Thanks for indulging me ahead of time.  :)

If you feel that some extra med is called for every couple of weeks, don't panic-- that's not unusual considering that you just weaned off Pred recently. Has your gastro ever put you on Rowasa besides the oral 5-ASA? Especially if you're having occasional constipation that would likely fight it off. Your diet also comes into play, too, because if you cannot tolerate fresh produce, you may need to take Metamucil or another fiber supplement to improve regularity. Yogurt or probiotics could help, in addition. The latest medical thinking RE 5-ASA meds is that oral & rectal meds work better in combination than singly to get Ucers to remission. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)
