skull   Is prednisone the only solution to kick this flare? I dread going back on prednisone. I saw my GI yesterday. I am definitely having a flare. Very bad cramps, lots of bloody mucus and diarhea, no appetite. I had labs and a C-Diff stool culture done yesterday. The results of the C-Diff will be back tomorrow. He wants me to wait for those results before starting back on the prednisone.

After he gets my labs back next week, if all is okay he wants to start me on 6-MP.

I want to feel better, but am so very disappointed to have to go back on the prednisone. I finally lost the weight I gained last year from the prednisone.

If I watch my salt intake and drink lots of water will that help me to not gain the weight? We are going on vacation in July and I don't want to look like a beached whale.

Pancolitis - dx December 2006

6-mp is the usual course of treatment after steriods.  have you used prednisone a lot to treat your flares.  you may be dependent on steroids which is not good for long term health, and the reason the doc may want to switch you to another immunosuppressant.

the same was in my case but i treated it with alternative means.

hope you kick this flare in the butt.
Pharmacy Student, Class of 2009.  Diagnosed 8/99.  Suffered for almost 10 years.  I am currently on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and am nearing remission.  I feel fantastic!    I have lost so many years to this disease.  I decided to become a pharmacist to understand these drugs, and to help fellow sufferers of IBD.  My goal is to open up a pharmacy and take care of my patients(particularly explaining what the drugs do to you), compound special medications, and have a great practice. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THE SCD DIET? IT HAS PUT ME IN REMISSION AND I PLAN ON GETTING OFF THE ASACOL SOON TOO!  (In remission since 2/15/08)
Meds 3200 mg Asacol, 2.5 mg Prednisone.  Doc wanted to put me on 6-mp or Remicade, but I refused to take the medications!  For me, diet works...

it's kind of messed up that you are on coumadin especially since you are bleeding right now...
