It is a corticosteriod and it lists among it's uses ulcerative colitis and kidney disease.  I had never heard of it before and wonder why I have not.......if it is used for UC, then why are people not using that instead of prednisone?

I am going to bring up to my Doc but, I wanted to see if anyone out there heard of this?

just found a website that says it's 10 times stronger than prednisone and you take it every 2.5 days. Sounds scary to me.....

I've seen it used mostly in the hospital, in high doses for acute and dangerous conditions like swelling in the brain.

I used it once, but not for UC. I thought it was very similar to pred, but I'm not sure. I was prescribed two tablets when my tonsils were super swollen and infected and I couldn't swallow anything. It helped a little but not much, and I still ended up going to the ER a day later because of the swelling and pain.

Several years back, my Mom worked for an allergy clinic that would give decadron/kenalog injections. This doc was the only one in town offering it. Gave severe sufferers dramatic relief, but I got the impression it was a pretty dangerous trade off.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.

Therapeutic dose sulfasalazine.
Probiotics, l-glutamine and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice and Mucosaheal. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal.

I have a client/friend who is on it at this time because of idopathic anaphylaxis. To my embarassment, I was unexpectedly shocked when I saw her because it's changed her physically and emotionally to the extreme. It didn't help her as much as intended. It's cost her dearly, but her dignity remains steadfast and I admire her greatly.
Considering the alternative without it...it's hard to justify it one way or the other.

Personally....regarding UC....I'd have my colon removed before I went on that stuff. THAT is NO word of a lie.
