Sounds like you could be flaring. It is probably mucous that is being expelled w/ the gas. What meds are you on? Can you share a little background on your UC?

Gas alone....Phyzame helps me. I take 2 at a time.

thanks tab. yes i am flaring. im not on any meds. i was on both asacol and colazal. colazal didnt seem to help. asacol helped but the side effects were too bad so i got off. i take natures way probiotics now and l-glutamine because i was told that it will heal the colon and thats about it.

yes its definitely mucous along with the gas, so i was wondering if anything like 'gas x' would work to slow this down. i have some and will try it tonight.

Phazyme and gas-x are the same chemical (simethicone). I've tried Gas-X before, and it works somewhat, but only prevents gas (i.e. air you swallowed with your food) from getting from your stomach into your intestines. If the source of your gas is mainly from bacteria in your gut, then it won't help much. It also won't help your flare, or prevent you from forming that mucous. That said, you still may find it useful, and it won't exacerbate the problem.
Diagnosed summer of 2006 with ulcerative proctitis. In remission again, woot!
1x 500mg 5ASA suppositories
2x ~500mg DHA (algal source)
2x 600mg curcumin
1g glutamine

Some medications also cause gas as one of the side effects. I was on sulfasalazine for a year and 1/2 and experienced a little wind. But I just switched to Lialda and man, there are times when I sound like a blowhorn on a ship at sea! It's all "air", no mucous.

Best thing to do is call your doc.

I gotta say that since I've started religiously taking a probiotic, I have so much less gas. Almost nonexistent!

Try it!

Sporadic proctitis since about 1985. Mother had J-pouch surgery 1983.
DX'd with clostridium difficile in 2000. Pred, two courses of Flagyl, then Vancomycin finally got rid of it. 2001 colonoscopy dx'd left-sided UC. . Treated with prednisone, Rowasa, Asacol. Asacol not working, switched to Imuran. Three small flares since in 2002, 2005, and 2007, brought under control with steroid and Rowasa enemas. Lap Chole performed October 26, 2007, after gall bladder attack in June, '07.
Daily meds: 100 mg Azathioprine and 225 mg Effexor XR (for chronic, longstanding depression), many vitamins and Primadophilus Reuteri

I'm taking one already, but I think it's time for a more powerful one. I think I might try Kyo-Dophilus. Any ideas one way or the other as to whether this is a good one?
