Does anyone suffer from GERD / acid reflux along with their UC.

I have 2 questions

1) Is the GERD a result of the UC or are both GERD and UC a symptom of "bowel issues".

2) A get a lot of funny tastes in my mouth without ever having a sick tummy nor loss of appetite. Is the GERD causing these funny tastes?

Thanks,

D

I believe GERD is a seperate issue from IBD but that's not to say one with IBD cannot also suffer with GERD, I don't believe one causes the other either.

I am interested in what others have to say, too.  At times, I get really frustrated trying to figure cause and relationship out with the UC, IBS, etc. ad naseum!

I do not believe that my acid reflux is connected to me having Uc. I believe that is a separate issue. I never had stomach issues at all until this past year. I believe mine was contributed to taking my medications for many many years without food that it has finally caught up with me. I think too that I suffer from gastritis though I haven't been diagnosed with it yet - all the symptoms fit however.

I sometimes wake up with a sour taste in my mouth which I believe is my acid reflux. But my other symptoms are heartburn (this is minimal), a painful lump feeling in my chest, naseau (sp?), inability to swallow, stomach burning and sharp shooting pains. I am now on Prilosec and it has kept all those symptoms down for the most part. I think for me, the inability to swallow is the toughest!

I had gerd when I was on asacol. I'm now on colazol and rarely have a problem. Zantac 75 was all I needed to feel better.

 lucky us
