Hi everyone! I found this site a few weeks ago and it has been soo very helpful. I will try to keep this as short as possible. I've been in an active and severe flair since the end of Dec07. I have a few questions I hope I could get some help on. First I have Pancolitus but I also have severe pancreatic disease. My GI has been very hesitant in the past to steroid treatment as it can be very damaging to my pancreas. I have been using asacol 400x12 and salfalk supp x2since most recent flairup. I have had no improvement. Currently going about 10-20 times per day with an awful lot of blood, clots and mucus not significant amts of stool. I have read how many people find probiotics to be a great help but my GI has now told me that these can prove fatal in people with my type of pancreas disease. I will be seeing GI on 20/03/08 for a scope to see if disease is bad enough to warrant trying steroids. Is there any meds out there that are nonsteroidal but still effective in bringing on a remission? I also wondered about how much blood is too much--every flair is always accom by blood but this time 5-6 times a day toilet is wine red & filled with clots? Normal? I was told to go to er if I began hemmoraging! ant get hubby to look as sight of blood causes him to actually pass out!!!  I generally do well with my colitus and have most of my problems,  hospitalizations due to pancreas. I am amazed at how supportive of each other you all are.
Thank you for any help or advice you could provide.

PS- Question on another link asked about handedness--Im a leftie.

Welcome to HealingWell. Wow, it's a little difficult to know what to say because your treatment is so complicated by the pancreatic disease. Most of the meds we use can cause pancreatitis, so wouldn't be appropriate for you.

I know Remicade has been used and shown some promise in treating pancreatitis, so I'm wondering if it would be safe for you? It's also been quite effective for some of us in getting into remission. Have you ever been treated with it?
