Hi Everyone. I was diagnosed with colitis (microscopic, I believe, I know it's not ulcerative), a month ago. Anyway, I am on Asacol 2 pills, 3 times daily. The past few days I have felt worse than ever. Not so much the diahrea, but dizzy, feverish, nauseated, resulting in loss of appetite. I usually feel better come mid-afternoon. My question is...could all this be caused from the Asacol or is this just part of the colitis thing? I felt much better before I was even told I had colitis. Any help is much appreciated!!

Hi Leelin, and welcome to HealingWell! I'm sorry you are feeling so poorly. I too had the dizzy feeling which was attributed to the UC, but you might want to make sure that you are not having a reaction to the Asacol especially if you were not feeling that way until you started taking it. If you continue to feel bad, be sure and get to the emergency room or call your doc right away. Again, welcome, and let us know how you are doing.

I got the dizzy thing after starting Asacol, too. It went away after 2-3 weeks though. I don't know much about microscopic colitis. Is it a chronic condition? Maybe you should check in with your doctor and explain your symptoms just to be safe. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you for the reply Loneylane. I am going to go a couple more days to see how I am and if not better then I will contact my doctor. I guess I would have thought if I was allergic to the Asacol it would have happened before now since I have been taking it for over 2 weeks now. But maybe it just takes that long to get into my system? I also was wondering, does anyone have a lot of anxiety with colitis and do you take anything for it? I am on 10 mg. of Nortryptaline but more so for controlling the diahrea than for any anxiety or depression. But I am now feeling a great deal of anxiety, especially in the morning. Man! I hate mornings!! Are mornings bad for everyone else? Thanks for your help!

Hey, I know that asacol can take up to a month to get into your system, so it makes sense that symptoms are just starting now, but you might still adjust. I say talk to your doctor sooner rather than later, I know that when I was diagnosed with colitis it took a while for me to get comfortable with talking to my doc all the time, but it is pretty necessary. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for all your help. I am talking to my doctor today. I took myself off the Asacol yesterday and today to see if I could get my appetite back. It did seem to work yesterday. So far havent eaten much today. But I think I will be able to. My biggest problem now is waking up very early in the morning with a terrible nervous, anxious feeling. I took one xanax .25mg the last two mornings, that seemed to help with the anxiety, but then I was so tired I couldnt get out of bed until noon. Then I feel better and better as the day goes on. Any suggestions on how to deal with that? Thanks everyone!

I TOO SUFFER FROM ANXIETY/DEPRESSION DUE TO UC(PROCTITIS)

I ORDERED "JOINT SUPPORT FORMULA" FROM AYUSHAKTI USA IN NYC , IT'S AN AYURVEDIC FORMULA FOR JOINT PAINS(CONTAINS HERB GUGGUL AND BOEHAVIA) WHICH ARE ANTI INFLAMATORY AND GUESS WHAT IT GAVE RELIEF IN COLITIS ALSO WITHOUT ANY SIDE EFFECTS!

YOU MAY WANT TO TRY THAT FORMULA . IF YOUR COLITIS IS MILD THEN IT SHOULD WORK FOR YOU.

I DON'T HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE , LAST YEAR WHEN I WENT TO DOCTOR HE DIDN'T DO A COLONSCOPY ON ME AND HE SAID IT IS DUE TO MY DEPRESSION . HOWEVER I HAVE ALL THE SYMPTOMS OF PROCTITIS . THERE IS SWELLING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY BELLY AND I COULDN'T SLEEP ON RIGHT SIDE , LEFT SIDE SLEEPING HELPS WITH THE BLOATING AND NAUSEA BUT AFTER TAKING JOINT SUPPORT FORMULA MY LOWER BACK PAIN IS RELIEVED TOO...

I GUESS ANXIETY/DEPRESSION IS PART AND PARCEL OF COLITIS . YOU HAVE TO BE MENTALLY STRONG AND FACE YOUR CONDITION WITH PATIENCE . BEING AROUND PEOPLE HELPS A LOT FOCUSING OUR ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE DISEASE . I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOO . SENDING LOVE AND GOD'S LIGHT YOUR WAY . TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF..
