I have been told by my GI that I am 5 ASA intolerant and also intolerant to immunosuppressants like Imuran and 6MP. Remicade also has little effect.

I just wanted to know if there are any UCer on this forum who are currently controlling their symptoms with only supplements?

Any suggestion for my case...

I'm a crohnie that only uses supplements, I'm either allergic or non-responsive to tradtional oral RX...

I actually do okay with just supplements, of course I'm intentionally careful with my diet and I exercise regularly as well, every little bit helps.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

so Gargamel, just out of curiousity, what does your GI suggest you do? What does intolerant mean, do you have bad reactions? Wow.... sorry 'bout that! I mean, that's like all the front-line UC drugs right there!

diagnosed with UC '02
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade infusions
Imuran- 100mgs/day
Iron supplement

i'm only controlling my uc with diet. i'm off all meds right now.
Pharmacy Student, Class of 2009.  Diagnosed 8/99.  Suffered for almost 10 years.  I am currently on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and am nearing remission.  I feel fantastic!    I have lost so many years to this disease.  I decided to become a pharmacist to understand these drugs, and to help fellow sufferers of IBD.  My goal is to open up a pharmacy and take care of my patients(particularly explaining what the drugs do to you), compound special medications, and have a great practice. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THE SCD DIET? IT HAS PUT ME IN REMISSION AND I PLAN ON GETTING OFF THE ASACOL SOON TOO!  (In remission since 2/15/08)
Meds 3200 mg Asacol, 2.5 mg Prednisone.  Doc wanted to put me on 6-mp or Remicade, but I refused to take the medications!  For me, diet works...

Old Hat,

The Vitamin D injection was only a trial and I haven't seen the results yet, but I wasn't impressed with it.

I felt good for a couple of days but then the effect wore-off.

I GI is pushing for surgery but I am not keen on that at all, so have decided to take things into my own hands and have been to a Homeopathic clinic to get a second opinion...

I've heard that a combination of Quercertin, Bromelain and Termeric can be good anti-inflammatories.

Also I have read somewhere that a dose of Vitamin C and bio-Flavonoid can be just as good as NSAIDs...

Any thoughts on these?

Hey--I am all about the drugs, BUT I do know that accupuncture has really helped me and there are some good chinese medicines out there--if you are done with the west, i really recommend it. But you need to make sure that the person really knows what they are doing, especially with the medicines. Lb
Asacol, 4 pills 4 X a Day
Rowasa at Night
Canasa in the Day
Prednisone 40 mg--I'm flairing right now.
