The doctors in UK & Ireland seem to define UC by how frequent your BMs are. I guess this is their best way of "rating" your UC in the absence of a c-scope. Mild/moderate seems to be 3-5 BMs a day with only sparadic blood. If you have blood most of the time and are moving towards 8+ BM a day they use the word moderate to severe.
I think when they do a c-scope they rate the disease not on its extent nor on its location but on how severe the inflammation is. So you could have mild pancolitis throughout your colon but a severe left sided UC.
The implication that the more spread the disease is the worse your UC is seems to be incorrect. It is more about how bad the inflammation is.
